The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

I've got a boxed 24-70L hood and a 24-70L box.... but no 24-70L :(

Haha, you're doing it wrong! :p

Have genuine hoods for the 50 1.4 and 10-22, the others came with hoods.

I actually don't think I've ever used the 10-22 hood, I just wanted it for 'completeness' :(

24mm just doesn't seem very wide now...

Nice! That one is definitely on my list although I suspect I'll have to make do with my 17-35mm a bit longer as it does the job for now.

I meant to ask you...what was the name of the HK shop you got your 35mm from? I seem to remember the prices being really good but can't for the life of me remember the name now.

I swore I'd never touch another Sigma lens after the problems I had with my 20mm although I'm finding it hard to discount what I'm seeing from the 85mm. The one thing that I'm still not sure of is what its colour rendition is like. How does it sit alongside your G lenses when it comes to post processing?

Cheers.

I got my 35 from ******* for I think around £1135, however they have now put their prices up I noticed.
As for colour rendition of the Sigma, I'm not sure really, I leave it on auto WB and correct WB individually or if possible copy the WB values to other files to save time. to get a correct WB I just whack the saturation and vibrancy up to full in lightroom, this makes colour casts much more visible, and then reset all saturation levels with an action once done. All I can say is once I'v done this, all my photo's colours between lenses match.

I know the Sigma glass produces a slightly warmer image on Canon's compared to the 85L, but maybe colour is more closely matched with Nikon?

Thanks.

As long as there's no hugely obvious difference then it's not much of a concern then. I'm still ever so slightly wary of 3rd party ever since the lens protocols were changed by Nikon with the D7000 turning lots of Sigma lenses to paperweights overnight. For some odd reason my D7000 wouldn't even turn on with the Sigma attached although it now seems to work fine with my D800 so who knows when it's going to strike next. The 85mm is just looking too good for the money to ignore though.

D800's are next on my list as well as the Nikon 85 1.4, won't be upgrading for a while now though...

I shouldn't be upgrading for a while either...according to my wife anyway.Haha! If I sell on all the stuff I don't use much then I could probably justify a new lens though and I'm still deciding between the Nikon and Sigma 85's.

I've not had much chance to use the new camera since it arrived. The one thing that did strike me is it's not quite as nice to hold to the eye for those of us who are left eye dominant as the D700 was. The back of the body is much flatter and the eyecup is far more in line with the back than the D700. It may not affect right eye dominant users in the same way though. I've still to fit my dk17m and dk19 so that should make it much better with its increased height. Other than that it's still very nice to hold. Hopefully I'll get more of a chance to get out with it soon though.

Enjoy the 14-24mm. Definitely jealous of that one. :D
