It may be a stop slower than the f/2.8 models but it's also a fraction of the price and half the weight. There are many people with both an f/2.8 and f/4 version of this lens, as the latter is far more "luggable" for holidays and the like when you don't need that extra stop.

My 20mm f1.8 finally arrived this morning.

Sat amongst my current wide angle primes it seems a bit big, but it is certainly light. Build quality seems a little lacklustre but it does seem reasonably sturdy.

I fear I've made a colossal mistake...

I shouldn't be allowed near eBay.

I just bought a Canon 5D and 40mm 2.8 STM lense from the same seller who sold me the 70-200 L. Gonna return the 24mm STM and sell my 100D w/ 18-55 STM for as much as I can.

I still miss my 20D. I'm hopeless.

Because it's optical instead of copper, and because there isn't much competition in the market.

Fiber is cheap, it's copper that's expensive- you don't generally find thieves digging up fiber for scrap!

Cost of manufacture Vs Cost of raw material.
10m of copper USB is around £15. 10m of optical USB cable is £80.

I'm sure nobody is forcing Apple to use Thunderbolt...

It's faster but I'm quite happy with my USB3 since it's rare that USB is the bottleneck with what I do with it :/
