The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

No big swap, just the kit lens, 'nifty-fifty' 50mm f/1.8 and 75-300mm f/4-5.6 zoom lens. Had it valued by wex at £60 trade in (yeh right oh). It'll stay in the cupboard until my daughter wants to use it!

Don't get me wrong, I do really like the Canon kit, you just have to find what suits you and what is comfortable (and preference!).

As for good glass.. ;) I'll be going the 'Holy trinity' f/2.8 Nikon line up first then a mixture of primes :)

A few rechargeables is nice since you can re-use but for a wedding you might be better off just buying a massive pack of batteries from Maplins or something to burn through.

Alkalines, especially cheap ones, really struggle with high currents, so you'd find your cycle times suffering on the flash, and probably overall battery life. A few decent rechargeables would be a good investment, they're not that expensive!

The wedding 'tog I did second shooting for always used duracell, he ran short at one wedding so I lent him some of my rechargeables. He couldn't believe the difference and swapped straight away!

For regular wedding shooters then yes, a good bunch of rechargeables is a good investment but for a one off like he's doing? Can either buy a bunch of good batteries you hardly ever use or make do with a bunch of cheap disposable batteries you can burn through quickly.

The performance improvement you get is well worth it even for a single wedding if you're going to use the flash a lot. For me anyhow, and yes I do now have a few sets of rechargeables that I don't use a lot :D

Not even sure he's bought the flash yet so it might be too early to say whether he uses it a lot hehe

I hardly use mine and I bought 8 Eneloops as well as having some other Energizer crap ones but I wouldn't want to assume that's enough for a one off even but I also wouldn't want to run out of power even if it was only 30 minutes before the event was over :)

Not particularly interesting but picked up the m3/4 Panasonic 45-150 cheapy zoom at the airport on the way out on a trip, kept meaning to get something with a bit more reach and can give it a decent try out.

Still want the 35-100 2.8 or the new Olympus 2.8 soon :)

Purchased one of these little beasts

Now i shouldn't have to lug around my 24-70

Won a 10-20mm Sigma Lens last week, extremely happy with the condition its in considering it was 2nd hand, although he did include the original receipt and the lens is only a couple of months old.

Hope the weather is better this weekend so I can get out and test it.
