The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Yougou 600EX_RT arrived, not tried it yet but 2 things immediately obvious

1 - The sticker that says not Li-Ion comparitible. The Canon doesn't have this limitation.
2 - There is no lock on the tilt and swivel of the head. The canon has a soft side button at the joint where you press and twist.

Neither are deal breaker and a quarter of the price it is a bargain but those 2 things are immediately obvious.

I finally got around to upgrading my D800 to a D810. I was unsure if the upgrade was worth it but having used it for a couple of days now I regret not doing it sooner. Very impressed :)

Yeah I noticed the lack of the lock button straight away and thought it was a bit odd given the extent to which they've copied all other aspects of the design.

Can't say I'd noticed the Li-Ion limitation but surely all "standard" rechargables are Ni-MH anyway?

As you say, for £100 it's a total steal.

It takes Li-On external power sources though right, just the non compatible message is for the AA slot whereby someone might attempt to put some AA sized Li-On cells in there.b AA Eneloops last ages in them anyway.

I can't recall any YN speedlite having the head lock on the side though tbh.

There's one glaring issue with the YN-E3-RT though, if the batteries are left in and it is switched off, the batteries will drain. I tested this a few times and the batteries after about a week were low/empty. Thankfully the batteries can sit inside the pouch with the commander nicely so it's just an extra step to take them out after use.

I really don't know why I bought a YN-E3-RT. Although cheaper than the Canon version, it's not much more for the YN600EX-RT so you may as well buy another one of those instead.

Tempted to flog it but it's only worth about 50 quid and I paid 90 for it which is a tad depressing.

Despite all the fan fair when the YN-E3-RT released I have read so much bad feedback on it I would rather wait on a canon version with AF assist, I understand others may need it for AF assist right now though :)

I'm interested in the flash though but I might just get another Canon as I'm more than happy with my other.

Bad press? I guess I can't really say I've looked but I also can't say I've seen anything bad about it but then again I don't use mine much :E

What's wrong with it?

I have a couple of YN 560's and a 560 TX which seem to work well. No ETL and no high speed but great flexibility in how they can be used together on and off camera and a bargain for the price of this setup.

New goodies arrived for the D750! Very impressed with the 2 minute of use the controller has had. A million times better than my pocketwizard AC3 + FlexTTL setup I had on the canon (which cost £300 I might add!!).

£483 in total, 4 transmitters, 1 LCD controller and 4x YN568EX flashes :D

First wedding in 3 weeks with the Nikons, not used them anywhere near enough yet!

I would be interested in how you got on with the wireless flash controller & receivers, as I am interested in getting some ! ?

I literally have no self-control...

Off to Chernobyl next month, so popped into the local camera shop to pick up a few memory card & a few batteries for my aging EOS 20D

Whilst there started playing with a few cameras & ended up walking out with these two to go with my shiny new tripod

Few bits and bobs:

Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 macro manual focus and hoods
Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 manual focus prime and hood
Some viewfinder covers
Cheapo grad filter
Cheapo filter case
Redged carbon fibre travel tripod

Really impressed (and I haven't even used it yet) with the tripod, soooo small !
