The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

:)

They don't make them anymore it seems!

Jonney, this was my original thread when I was doing my search.

https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/best-compact-travel-tripod-just.528347/

My MUST have criteria is that it folds down to 30cm. None of the big brands does, Gitzo although unbeatable for quality, the length was just too long, plus it's also £600+. The Redged was less than £200.

Doing some tripod research as I can't stand this weird Manfrotto one I currently have. Found your thread and got all excited as the Redgeds looked really good but as you say, they seemed to have vanished :(.

Edit - think I am steering towards the Benro TSL08CN00 Slim Carbon-Fibre Tripod. A branch would be an upgrade from my current one so the Benro looks a good first (purchased) tripod. And a carbon fibre for £100 ain't bad :).

Looking to spend £550 -£600,it's a good price for a new one but never purchased anything from them.
Yeah it's a risk, I've just ordered a 75-300mm f4 lens for £50, paid with paypal and chosen tracked and insured delivery, if it all goes well, i'll order the 70-200mm f4 lens. :)

I've ordered a couple of items from them, and there weren't any problems (ordered something relatively cheap initially, before buying an RX100 MkIII from them). I've seen complaints about delivery times when people have ordered the likes of mobile phones off them, but camera gear seems to be reasonably hitch free.

Good to know :)

The F4 is meant to be really sharp and a lot lighter.

I owned the F4 before the 2.8 and is much lighter sharpness no difference from what I remember also when you own a F4 deep down you want the F2.8 and is nice when you want that extra pop.

Nice depth of field but does my image seem sharper? Taken with the 18-55mm kit lens that came with the 1300d. Only resized for the forum, no post processing done.

For A2 Print plenty sharp with scratched paint job included.

If you go with the F4 you will not be disappointed I carry all my gear in a Givi top box when out on the bike and the weight of the 2.8 can be a pain some times.

But would I go back to the F4 errr No I was thinking about it but will be moving on from the 70-200.

Can this thread also double as a Q&A for proposed purchases? Rather than start a new thread.

Posted earlier in this page; I have some weird Manfrotto tripod with levers that seem to only hinder its use. It's just not that nice to use lol.

Done a bit of research and have my heart set on the Benro TSL08CN00 Slim Carbon-Fibre Tripod with Ball Head. Reviews seem good but Benro as a company seems to garner more obscure reviews/opinions that the usual suspects (Gitzo, Manfrotto etc).

A carbon fibre for £100 seems good, well built and a 5 year warranty. Any one here have a Benro? A 4kg payload should be fine; currently have a D5200 and Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 - might buy my first speedlight in the next month.

You could spend your entire life time getting great pictures with just that lens with enough practise. I still find myself tempted to buy a cheap used 5D original and one of those to try and rekindle my interest in photography as a hobby.

My RX10 is great for travelling but I hardly use it at home.
