*** The new MacBook/MacBook Pro thread, all info in here ***

Two questions of my own:

Has anyone got a good case/bag/sock that fits the new Macbook?

And more importantly right now, how the buggery do I stop my ATV remote messing with the MacBook ?

I expect my Foof will fit the new MBP just as nicely as the old one. Same goes for my Crumpler Daily :)

System Prefs -> Security -> Disable iR Receiver.

But then they'd have to integrate HDMI into the laptop as well, which would add even more to costs.
The MacBook is supposed to be the cheapest laptop they offer and it would be so much more expensive with blu-ray, HDMI etc.

With regards to firewire, this will continue to annoy me - not only for those who use video cameras but what about us with external sound cards? I'll stick to my iMac and my old MacBook thank you!
HDMI would add hardly anything, especially considering the premium they've added onto it.

Firewire is a ridiculous gumpf, why take it out? Cutting costs or for the size of it? Sorry, but they lost a sale from me as I use it both for my video camera and my external hard drive - unfortunate for them, really, as it's the standard for audio interfaces, sound cards, video cameras and all that - even an extra USB port would have helped (but I still wouldn't have bothered).

As it is, I'm keeping onto my old MacBook (which really isn't that old either).
Quick question, if I buy the display-port to VGA cable to hook my MBP up to my HDTV, will this enable me to use my MBP/iTunes as a sort of media center to playback TV shows / movies etc you can buy on iTunes?
Sort of, except where's the sound going?

Lack of firewire on the MacBook is a real bummer.

I set up media suites for schools, for which Apple have suddenly made the Macbooks unsuitable.

Schools will not be able to stretch the extra for a Macbook pro. V. Poor decision IMO.

I'm going to be getting a new MacBook/Pro in the next week or so. But I can't decide if the MacBook Pro 2.53GHz is worth the extra money over the MacBook 2.4GHz.

I will be using the HE discount and putting 4GB of RAM in each, and a DisplayPort adpater. Just really not sure which to get. I'm looking for portability and powerful performance really.

What do you guys think between the two? Which would be more practical? I'm studying Comp. Sci. if that makes a difference. Cheers

From reading the Gizmodo review it looks like if you need graphics performance then you have to go for the Pro. Both are going to be quick machines with 4GB of RAM. The extra GPU in the Pro is the only factor making a big difference.
