The *New* Official C&C3 Thread

Ok here's known problems

Routers:
Linksys WRT54G
Solution:
GO TO PORT TRIGGERING:

C&C 2049 TO 29910 2049 to 29910
C&C2 80 TO 80 80 TO 80
Also make sure you have port number in C&C settings blank.

Disable FW's

mcafee Virus scanner maybe causing conflicts try switching it off. so do others so try this

If running Vista 64

Move the EA Link Cache
For those of you running the EA Link version, Johnathonm found that giving the EA Link cache folder a custom location was helpful in getting the game to work.

Moving the EA Link Cache: http://support. ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php? p_faqid=14464

When you move the cache, make sure the location and the name are different than the defaults.
----------------

"DirectX 9 or Higher Must be Installed" Error
This error is typically due to a miscommunication with DirectX drivers. Make sure that you have the latest versions of DirectX and the drivers for your video and sound cards. You should also check that the drivers are compatible with Vista.

Updating Drivers: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea. cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=10711& p_created=1124387555

TiberiusOne found that updating directly after installation allowed the game to run. Once the installation is complete, eject the disk and then insert the disk again. This should bring up the auto-run screen. From the available options choose Check for Updates and allow the game to update before launching the program.

Travica888 found that disabling SLI on their NVidia card resolved the DirectX error as well.

registration problems
Some people have had trouble registering the game. I'll try to cover the main/known registration issues in this thread. Check the list below to see if your issue is covered. If it is not or the information does not help, please reply with what you have tried and what happens when you try to register.
-------------

GameReg.EA.com Does Not List C&C3
Command & Conquer 3 is not yet in the list on the GameReg site. You can register in-game by choosing Online and then Register. You can also register from the Start menu by choosing Support and then Electronic Registration from the Command & Conquer 3 menu.
-------------

The registration uses my email address instead of my account name!
For those of you with EA Link, the registration process may try to use your email address automatically instead of pulling your account name. Simply click back in the registration process and enter your EA.com account name instead. Thanks, MichaelBrobst2, for finding this.
-------------

Ereg.exe Crashes During Registration
The Electronic Registration program can sometimes conflict with the version of Adobe Flash Player that you have installed. Try removing your current version of Flash Player in Add/Remove Programs before running the program. You can also try updating Flash Player if removing it does not work.
-------------

The Key Appears as Already Registered
Make sure you are typing the serial number correctly. Keep in mind that EA serial numbers do not contain zeros nor the letter "O". If your serial appears to contain these characters, try replacing them with a "Q". If the key still appears to be registered or does not work, please contact us for a replacement.

Serial Replacement: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp. php?p_faqid=7805

Edit- this is all on there tech forum but thought it might help being all in one place.

The most common problem is routers and FW. so make sure you have it correct.

well, the last couple of days it's been buggy and there servers have been down, but patch 1.03 and there servers are now back up, which should mean the problems your end. Some ISp's do block the ports need and if you have a router that could be the problem.

Cant see anything on there forum about tiscali at the moment.

Hmm, I suppose it could be a router issue. My problem is that I'm not the admin for my router, so I'll have to get the ports checked at some point.

Those port port forwarding rules make no sodding sense. I’m looking in the back of the manual and they make no sense either, seems plenty of rules overlap! Twice in the manual it tells you TCP Any to 28910, I’m really confused.

I’ve set my rules as following:

Code:
Type	Inbound Local
TCP 27900-29901 27900-29901
TCP	6667 6667
UDP	27900-29901	27900-29901
UDP	13139 13139
UDP 6500 6500
UDP 2049-2949 2049-2949

Edit: just had a look on the EA site http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=TuQILcyi&p_faqid=14576
and it says it only needs UDP 8088 - 65535

What the heck is going on.

A the manual missed a few out  good old EA. also that Upd is a range, yes it does want 63000 ports opened.

I think I cut that down correctly.

How many folk here are continuing to have problems playing C&C3 online?

I've tried turning my firewall off completely but still receive the "Cannot connect to backend server" error.

Of note, I'm on a Netgear router with Tiscali as my ISP.

Just got the game today, and to be honest I'm absolutely awful, no matter who I go I always seem to lose, no matter what I build it always seems to get destroyed. Anyone know a good site for some basic strats/replays?

Nope there service is fine now it's either router or isp.

I just played my mate, he kicked my arse, I suck at multiplayer, doing on SP Campaign on normal level, though.

Played a few online matches, won all but one where it was 3v3 and my allies sucked ;p

Main flaw I see in most of my opponents is lack of refining. Your income early game is the single most important factor. You want at least 2 refinerys and 3 trucks per field. And why do people build power plants+cranes before refinery?? Get refinery out and earning you income asap!!!!

3 trucks at start on each is overkill imo you'll need that money for units

Anyone got any graphic glitches yet or is my driver/card? Its not artifacts (random colors etc). For example, sometimes the clouds shadow looks a bit weaird, or some units move strange.

Does anyone have any tips on that NOD mission where you start off with just engineers and glider guys and the commando? You have to capture the GDI construction yards while they're dealing with the skrin.
Trouble is by the time I manage to get rid of the power to down the defences and get my engineers in the GDI turn around and blow my newly aquired construction yard up!
