Move the EA Link Cache
For those of you running the EA Link version, Johnathonm found that giving the EA Link cache folder a custom location was helpful in getting the game to work.
Moving the EA Link Cache: http://support. ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php? p_faqid=14464
When you move the cache, make sure the location and the name are different than the defaults.

"DirectX 9 or Higher Must be Installed" Error
This error is typically due to a miscommunication with DirectX drivers. Make sure that you have the latest versions of DirectX and the drivers for your video and sound cards. You should also check that the drivers are compatible with Vista.
Updating Drivers: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea. cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=10711& p_created=1124387555
TiberiusOne found that updating directly after installation allowed the game to run. Once the installation is complete, eject the disk and then insert the disk again. This should bring up the auto-run screen. From the available options choose Check for Updates and allow the game to update before launching the program.
Travica888 found that disabling SLI on their NVidia card resolved the DirectX error as well.

registration problems
Some people have had trouble registering the game. I'll try to cover the main/known registration issues in this thread. Check the list below to see if your issue is covered. If it is not or the information does not help, please reply with what you have tried and what happens when you try to register.
-------------
GameReg.EA.com Does Not List C&C3
Command & Conquer 3 is not yet in the list on the GameReg site. You can register in-game by choosing Online and then Register. You can also register from the Start menu by choosing Support and then Electronic Registration from the Command & Conquer 3 menu.
-------------
The registration uses my email address instead of my account name!
For those of you with EA Link, the registration process may try to use your email address automatically instead of pulling your account name. Simply click back in the registration process and enter your EA.com account name instead. Thanks, MichaelBrobst2, for finding this.
-------------
Ereg.exe Crashes During Registration
The Electronic Registration program can sometimes conflict with the version of Adobe Flash Player that you have installed. Try removing your current version of Flash Player in Add/Remove Programs before running the program. You can also try updating Flash Player if removing it does not work.
-------------
The Key Appears as Already Registered
Make sure you are typing the serial number correctly. Keep in mind that EA serial numbers do not contain zeros nor the letter "O". If your serial appears to contain these characters, try replacing them with a "Q". If the key still appears to be registered or does not work, please contact us for a replacement.
Serial Replacement: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp. php?p_faqid=7805
