The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

I was thinking of going with GiffGaff but have read that the O2 network isn't good for 3G but guess out depends where you live

Iv checked by me (Birmingham) an the coverage don't seam to bad, but I guess the test will be once I get my PAC from orange this week and make the switch

Is it just me that's not having any battery issues what so ever?

Nothing uses battery on this phone apart from wireless and using the internet/watching movies and even then it doesn't use much. On standby i'd guess mine would last for a good 7 days and still have something like 15-20% battery left. I've got over a gigabyte worth of music and use this phone as an MP3 player, that also uses no battery power what so ever.

I had to take my phone back because of the poor battery performance.....the replacement is sitting at 70% after 2 days, definitely had a faulty battery in my first phone.

As said before, these phones are fine on standby and will last for ages, in airplane mode, and on standby mine will go for a week.

Once you start the apps rolling and the 3G + GPS connection going some it really kills the battery life.

Angry Birds can send you flat in 4 hours.

With the phone switched to 2G (GPRS) light use, small amount of browsing it will easily do 2-3 days with just mostly calls and texts. But hey if iI wanted to do that, I wouldn't have a smart phone since browsing with opera mini was ok on my SE 510i; which would give me 3-5 days on 2G. On 3G this was down to 2 days. I could drain the battery on the SE in a day though with solid 3G internet browsing.

3G data connection is still the battery killer it always was. I remember the first of the three network phones which would die in 1-2 days if lucky whilst the 2G phones could still kick out 1-2 weeks in the early 2000's.

I have bought Sygic and now need a larger memory card for all my music and stuff.

I think the phone can take up to 32GB but i'm looking at 8-16GB.

What would you recommend? And is there any real world benefit to class 6 vs class2?

That doesnt really bother me as i will happily put it on charge everynight great phone :D

Still cant get my wi-fi connected lol.

Lol, battery life doesn't bother me either as the pro's of this phone far outweigh the negatives.

For wi-fi try setting your router to have no security to see if you can get it to connect.

Which rom is casuing you the wi fi issues?

Battery life is still better than my iPhone 2G.

But can anyone tell me, why does the 'What's been using the battery' in about never show anything other than Android processes and maps? Do only google apps show up?

mine is currently showing :

Cell Standby
Display
Phone idle
Drop
Android System and Wi-fi.

What channel is your router set at? I remember when i first got my netbook I couldn't get it to connect to my router because the linux driver for the netbook wifi could not go up to channel 12.

Try changing it to a lower channel.

how robust is this phone and what is the GPS like ?
or/and what are the cases/screen protectors like for it?
mate had a case for his iphone that was just 4 rubber bits in each corner, didn't add much bulk to it at all
anything like that available ?

It wouldn't survive a drop that's for sure.

I bought a nice e71 gel skin for mine, makes it feel more sturdy and more expensive than it is.

I'm not a fan of how it feels 'naked'.

hmm, never bothered about apps etc before, this just caught my attention cos of the price
almost inevitable it'll get dropped tho, could be over before it's even started !

I would agree that i wouldn't expect this phone to work well after a good bang, but treated well it should last for long time.

My N80 is still going, just about and that's 4/5 years old. I can't imagine a ZTE Blade lasting that long in everyday useage no matter how careful you were with it.

I don't think the screen is scratch resistant either so be careful.

That being said, it's a great little phone.

If you are going to drop your phone, I'd suggest the motorola defy.
