Doesn't even seem you can send contact cards in the usual way in Android.

You can only send them via bluetooth or email not SMS - How absurd.

Apparently you need a third party app to send them via sms.

Why is it that nothing is joined up on android, it seems you need to tack bits on to get basic functionality? That's great for customisation, but really Phone, Contacts, MMS, SMS should be at the very root of the devices basic functionality.

Don't get me wrong i'm loving the phone and the OS, it's just not as complete as, god, dare i say it symbian eeeek

on another note, has anyone got any sms backup progs to work, i use smsbackup+ on my desire and its great cant seem to get it to work on the wifes San Fran?

automatically isnt important, its just when I see a better rom for her SF its a pain as she always nags me about her texts :D

ive got SMS backup working but from what i can see there is no restore option....
 
Yeah Symbian has been around for a while and like you say it does get some things right, like logical placement of call tones and text tones. But overall I enjoy using Android more, it just feels nicer to use even if I do have to put with some limitations, like the whole sending contacts over SMS.

I guess some of this boils down to Symbian being more mature and Android being relatively immature, in a way it is still a work in progress.
 
Sorted it, id prefer it to backup to gmail tbh, i installed smsbackup+ (as i have on desire) which failed but then i installed smsbackup (which said it was compat with + as long as only one auto backup was set) and voila job done
 
Two things that are bugging me at the moment.

1) I have molded ear plugs for when on my bike and the volume of music is really low on the SF is there a way of turn it up more? (i'm guessing it has a soft limit on it to comply with EU regs)

2) Is there a way to adjust the power of the wifi module? On my N80 i used to turn it down from 100mw to about 24mw when in good signal areas, to save battery life.
 
hoping someone can help, here goes

just picked up one of these today, and cant seem to get anything to download from the android appstore , all my downloads say starting (but never go any further) . after a google search it appears that this is a known issue.

from the search i tried deleting the all the google cache's on the phone, but unfortunatly this has npt helped.

any ideas?

I'm running the CustomBladeVillian RLS4 on mine. Is there anything better or is this one OK. It does seem stable enough mind.

Was using launcher pro and it expired, now I cant use the phone at all, it will only allow me to launch the browser to update launcher pro from here: http://www.launcherpro.com/category/updates/

Problem is the website wont load, keeps coming up with this....

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Is the site down or is it my phone network (Three) blocking access?

Is there any other way to get round the problem or factory reset the San Fran?

Had this problem myself earlier, found a solution :P

Go to this link in the browser when it tries to get you to update:
http://bubiloop.com/download/org.adw.launcher
That will launch the Android marketplace. From there search for Launcher Pro and update it to the latest version.
Then you're fixed :)

Edit: Found it, seems its not in phone settings at all like you'd expect from a proper mobile phone OS it's in the messaging application. Shows how andriod isn't really developed around mobile phones, more mobile devices.

What ROM are you using again?
 
Got a new class 4 memory card today for all my music, maps and vids.

Now can i just format the card FAT32 and copy across all my files? I presume there are no system based files on the memory card.
 
Great phone well worth the price only downside i have found is the camera :)


Anyone know where to get screen protectors and cases for it?

Look over on the modacco site, there are a few suggestions...and there was one seller selling 'san francisco' covers, which fitted perfectly apparently

Well...I think the camera is alright, its just the lack of flash...if there is enough lighting in the room then its fine really...which is a shame...even an LED flash would have sufficed :p
