The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

When buying the San Francisco phone is it a must to change things?

No, but there's no reason not to. You're just hindering your own property. At the very least i'd strongly suggest you change the launcher, Orange provide an app to do this which is very easy to use and increases the ease of use and stability of your device.

Cheers. I have looked around at the ways things have to be changed on the phone and i have to admit it looks daunting to me!!

Not having the phone yet i am unsure if i would need to change things but you guys have great advice.

If there was a must do/change list with the phone when bought from new what would it be? Things that one just had to change. I know everyone is different and would want dif things changed. All i want to know is, is there a list of things that i 'should' change when getting the phone for the first time? Cheers

Can't seem to get setCPU to work correctly with RLS5.
it works after install, 750mhz was super stable and made a big difference to playing Angrybirds as an example.
BUT!
after a reboot it refuses to open again and the phone starts to act in a very strange manner , laggy and certain widgets not opening.
re-install , etc all is fine again.

RLS6 seems to have fixed this issue.
Running 122/748 clocks :)

People go on about Orange bloatware but it doesn't get in the way so leave it or try and uninstall some of it.
My wife wanted the SMS to look similar to an IPhone or my Samsung Galaxy so I put Go SMS on (Handcent is good to).
I also put her a better alarm clock on called Koaler Alarm (!).
Everything else will be you changing your wallpaper and where you want the icons to go.

Thanks mate. Will do.

Finding the stock orange rom pretty good tbh, just took a bit of orange stuff off and put angry birds on and i'm happy:p

Though saying that, I will no doubt be browsing tonight for 2.2 roms:o:cool:

My daughter absolutely loves hers, had it since Christmas day and I don't think its been more than arms length from her since.
Set it running the bladevillian firmware and its been rock solid, only grip is "watchdog" which seems to be annoying her, not really been able to prize it out of her hand for long enough to sort that out :)

This is pretty much what I have done with mine. I removed some of the Orange stuff, added Handcent and a few other apps and the phone is fine.

The phone is fine with the stock rom, no doubt about it.
But if you can manage to flash the roms, then you should - it turns it from fine to a great phone now the propper 2.2 kernel is released.

Infact the biggest issue people have when it comes to flashing seems to be windows USB drivers as per usual..

What rom do you recommend? I noticed the japanese jellyfish one seems to be popular?

yeah Its what i use. (JF RSL6)
Going by the poll on Modaco its the most popular overall by a long way.

Good thing is once you got the bootloader working, flashing a new rom is easy anyway, so u can backup the orange (DO THIS FIRST !) and then load a couple of roms zip files onto the SD card, then just try them out and even go back to the orange rom if you needed.

Seb's Roms seems a close second, atm, but as always things are changing daily now they have the new kernel.

That's why you should be running linux, no additional drivers required :D
