The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Purchased Today:::

Job 1:

Install the latest Win 7 drivers http://android.modaco.com/content/z...com/319156/winxp-7-zte-blade-drivers-and-adb/

Job 2:

Install fastboot

Job 3:

Install the latest MoDaCo clockwork recovery which was available from yesterday (no need to root phone with this mod as part of it) http://android.modaco.com/content/z...9565/07-oct-2-5-0-9-r2-clockworkmod-recovery/

Job 4:

Install custom rom r3 (requires the above clockwork recovery) http://android.modaco.com/content/z...daco-custom-rom-mcr-downloads-online-kitchen/

Total time due to noob failure 3 hours. Had I been slick it would have been 10 mins lol.

My main problem was that I didn't copy the clockwork image into the fastboot folder so it couldn't find it. After that it was a doddle as r3 can be installed straight from the phone off the SD card in recovery mode. Real time was about 10 mins had I not been such a techie failure.

Fancy Widget. Details earlier in the thread. :)

Not available in the market, you need the QR code to get it and Barcode Scanner to read that to get the installer URL. Or install one of the Kitchen baked ROMS from MoDaCo if you're a subscriber.

all this talk of rooting, clockwork etc confuses me

i originally used boot.blade superboot etc
and flashed with blade mcr r3

what benefits are there of using clockwork
and will i have to unroot the boot.blade superboot
can both run at the same time?

can someone explain in noob terms please

As I understand it, rooting (superboot) gives you access to run whatever you want on the phone however you want as the root user.

Clockwork is a means of a) total phone backup and b) ROM installation. It boots ahead of Android, meaning you can make these changes.

Sorted :)

Ive got a feeling that these will build up a big community at XDA, ive got this (for the wife) and also a desire for myself whilst the desire is no doubt the better phone i actually prefer the feel (size etc) of the SF

Nice to see a smartphone for under £100, I am pretty tempted as my N82 is getting on a bit now. Are there any music creation type applications like Nanostudio for Android at all? If so I might pick one of these up. :)

EDIT: Also, does it have a built in GPS at all?
