The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Any speed improvements? I'd assume its just the same as before.
I experienced some random lag on the pre-cooked r3 build, and I'm not noticing it on my custom cooked r4. So it must be due to the fact I've removed a lot of the extras; such as live wallpapers, car home, maps, sound recorder, etc..

Early reports that deselecting 'WiFi Status Indicator' in R4's kitchen solves the wi-fi disconnecting issue.

Interesting, I thought people were experiencing this on the stock Orange ROM as well as the Modaco one, this app definitely only comes with the Modaco ROM right?

Anyone used the San Francisco and Samsung Galaxy S?

Currently got a SGS, and very tempted to downgrade to the San Fran if it'll do 90% of what the SGS can, whilst pocketing £150 or so at the same time!

If anyone's in a position to compare the 2, any feedback would be much appreciated. :D

Depends on how you describe 'faster' - in the home screen arena using LauncherPro (vs. the same on FroydVillain Hero 2.2) it is marginally quicker but not much in it. When you get to app usage it is much more clear cut. Angry Birds, and my new favourite Fruit Ninja, are both absolute joys to play! On my Hero running 2.2 Angry Birds was glitchy and very laggy, on this device it is amazing and on par with the iPhone experience. Haven't tried many other games but other things like App Installation and the like are all much snappier than on the Hero.

That all said I think the screen justifies the price on its own, especially if you're talking about coming from a Hero.

edit: Oh and live wallpapers run smoothly. Although they 'worked' on FroydVillain the 3d ones mostly didn't launch and the 2d ones were dead laggy.

thanks for replying
i gave my old hero to brother and hes bugging me about how it can be so slow sometimes so might just sell it and buy this for him

id definatly keep the sgs tbh, ive used my mates and its an awesome phone, which should get even better once 2.2 is released.

Yeah, love my SGS (once you've ran multiple fixes on it!), just seriously tempted by the cash difference, and the San Francisco appears to be able to do almost everything the SGS can.

I had a HTC Desire.

I now have a SF and the balance in my pocket.

The SF does 99% of what i used the Desire for and the slightly smaller size is a bonus (to me anyway..) I think it all comes down to how much of the SGS you actually use and need. If you dont take advantage of the facilities on offer with the SGS the the SF may be a good buy (and you can put a wedge away for Xmas)

For me it was a good move, and one i dont regret.

I pondered on the SF , can it really replace my Desire. Indeed it can virtually do everythink the Desire does, but the HTC does it with so much more style, and the SF on stock orange seems very very laggy compared to it. My brain says SF, but my heart goes with HTC, and sod the cost. ZTE Blade ala SF, what a phone for a hundred quid, i thankyou :D

R4'd last night, lost 3G internet this morning. Tried deleting and recreating the APN, and I just get "connect failed" when I try re-enabling the data connection. Everything else though is a lot faster, r4 is a definite step up from r3.

I find the audio is the opposite, I think it's too loud. When listening to Spotify I only need it 1or 2 notches above silent and I find that's spot on really, using bog standard sennheisers.

No issues for 3g here for me (t-mobile) on R4

Managed to crack it, combination of deleting/creating APN, disabling/enabling 3G and restarting the phone.

Also, I thought the wifi issue was resolved as well. Phone slept overnight, fired it up this morning and the wifi started and connected automatically. Alas, it died whilst I was getting ready for work this morning. Square one, back to.
