The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Windows XP x64 Bit version.

@Asim18

Followed the steps and it just gets stuck when i'm about to flash it with < waiting for device > and that's it. :(

if you have not read this thread have a read.

I did a friends yesterday, as he had not a clue. Took me a couple of hours to get the waiting for device thing to go away.

You need to make sure you have both drivers installed, when your phoe is fully switched on. And you also then need to boot up with volume up button pressed, and then get the driver installed there as well (something like boot driver). If this one is not installed it will not work, which sounds like your issue (same as mine).

Yep drivers installed fine. I downloaded these drivers:

Knackered so i'll have another go tomorrow, thanks for the help guys.

But have you made sure you have the 2 sets for when the phone is fully powered on, and the single driver for when it's in boot mode.

If the boot mode driver is not there ie when the green android guy is on screen (it's different than the other 2 drivers) it will not send the data across.

I was playing angry birds for hours last night and apart from a few stutters in the more complicated levels it was fine, what 2.2 rom are you using?

Its the Modacco one in the OP I believe, 2.2 Alpha R2?

No difference just allows more things to be installed...

Angry birds chuggs like mad at times, The phone is not really powerfull enough to run it properly but for £99 you cant moan.

Indeed...

I was talking to a friend last night, and thats the problem with Android applications / games...because theres so much variation between the hardware, its going to be a nightmare for developers...atleast with IOS they only have 3/4 hardware specs to design towards...That's why I think Android need to say that anything designed for the O/S from now on needs to be able to run on 'x' spec.

All I needed, was two drivers, initially I was getting the 'waiting for device' issue as well, but thats because I hadn't installed the other drivers as you posted above and as Moogleys posted:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=18037726&postcount=1702

I also downloaded these first:

This is starting to do my head in, no idea what i'm doing wrong and why it's not working!

I want to get rid of all this Orange crap they put onto the phone and I can't, is there an easier way of doing it through software or something?

This is the easiest method, believe me :)

Copy two files into one directory, copy ALL files into one directory, then once thats loaded, you can install the ROM you need (Took me a while as well so dont worry)

Plug the phone in normally, install the ZTE drivers linked in this post, then try turning the phone on in 'boot' mode (Where your trying to run fastboot, let the computer pick up the hardware, and install the USB drivers Moogleys posted.

Off for a shower, will give this a go again in a bit. How do I uinstall the drivers even though i've installed them now for the Blade? Want to start fresh.

plug the phone in to your pc, then goto device manager and right click on the phone devices and click uninstall.

San Fransisco Android 2.2 OLED version... The screen is by far the most immpressive part of the phone its really worth trying to get an OLED one if you can..

what clock is this, quite like the info section on it

I really am confused as to whether i have an OLED or not, it is a B08 which is the newer revision that is supposed to be TFT, but there seem to be a lot of people claiming to have B08's with OLED screens and looking at mine there is no back light bleed when held at an angle and viewing the screen at about 80 degree angle the screen is still almost as clear as looking straight on.

Best way to tell is to go into a completely dark room, boot up the phone and look at the screen.

OLED = Blacks are completely black

TFT = Blacks are somewhat grey.

Right, re-read everything, re-downloaded everything and I STILL get < waiting for device >!!!

This is what i've got downloaded and installed:

All the files, both the Modaco IMG file and the other one, all in one folder:

Extracted and dumped everything onto the C:| drive as the official guide was telling me to, apparently it's easier to do that way:

Phone plugged in and switched ON and mounted:

Phone plugged in and switched OFF with the + Volume held down while booting:

Seriously, i'm actually starting to get physically exhausted from trying to get this thing to work, i've literally been sitting on the computer for the last 2 days doing this.

If anyone could have a thorough look at those screens and tell me if i've done/downloaded/installed something wrong just so I can get this damned thing to work i'd appreciate it.

Just to clarify, I have downloaded all the right things, right? Want to rule out all possibilities that i'm being retarded so I can blame the computer.

Gonna watch Die Hard 2, leaving this till tomorrow.

Meant to be the safest one to use, apparently (according to the posts on Modaco) some users report the new one working while others don't.

BrbDieHard2.

I haven't done it myself yet but going by my problems with IPOD Jailbreaking on Win 7 64 bit I went onto my laptop with XP and it worked first time.

I got my oled version and the screen is great.

Still prefer the build quality and keyboard on my iphone though, really not liking the plastic screen.
