The new Samsung Odyssey G9 Mini Led

As much as its a nice screen £2,249 is just too much IMO. You could buy two 48cx OLEDs and still have change for that money.

And I dont really consider it as "high res" as per that link claims it is. It is really only two 2540 x 1440 screens put together effectively. Thats not high res in my book.

High res tends to mean high PPI and this screen certainly doesnt have that due to its size.

If it had been 6240 x 1600 then they may have had a claim. Or ideally 7680 x 2160. Now that I would have bought for £2249.

£2,249 me thinks.

I wonder if it'll be £1500 by black Friday.

I hope so... As good as the monitor might be, it wont be worth that kind of money tbh, so ill definitely be waiting for some sort of deal

The "hi res" is just sneaky marketing. Like you said its just 2 1440p panels together, which is the standard resolution these days and most people have probably moved on from 1080p at this point.

How would you even run a 7680x2160 monitor. That's almost double 4K. Even this resolution it's not possible to use the max refresh 240hz on most games.

Next gen gfx cards? the 4000 series is aimed at having double the speed of current series and the AMD is aiming for 2.5 times the performance of theirs.

so yeah you would need a 4090 likely but I tend to keep monitors for a lot of years, I have had my last one for 6 years. When I got it there wasnt any gfx cards that could run high end games with gfx options turned up at 4k at 60hz. I think it was one of the Tomb raider games that would only run at 30fps. I now have the power to hit a 60fps min in every game.

Plus you dont need 240hz in every game and if gaming competitively where you might notice the difference over 144hz then just turn down your settings until we have 5000 or 6000 series cards.

Add a new version of the gsync module and so long as you are getting 60fps minimum it will run lovely

I was play RDR2 last night with dlss and getting in excess of 100fps at 4k so on an 8k screen that would be 50fps. With a 4090 card you would be back up to 100 fps again. With a 5090 you might be getting 200 fps. Thats only 3 years away.

If I was spending £2500 on a screen I would want it to last more than 3 years.

You're assuming you are going to be playing the same games in 3 years. Next gen games becoming more demanding. No way in hell are we going to get double performance where 240fps even at 4k becomes the norm in the next generation. I expect 144hz will be comfortable at 4k for most games using dlss in the next gen.

Like I said I dont expect 240hz to be the norm ever. We dont even have games that push 144hz now., and as you say games become more demanding anyway.

I would be perfectly happy with a 120Hz 7860 x 2160 screen with mini LED and good HDR. If like you say, 144hz at 4k with dlss becomes the norm next gen then I would be happy using s 7860 x 2160 screen at 72hz and then 100+ with the gen after.

At the current exchange rate $2500 equates to £1810.
God i hate the way money is converted during sales.
That being said I find it strange that when i spoke to a rep at samsung he stated that the cost would be £1000-1500.
Oh well have to wait and see how this turns out I guess.

Ya there is nothing "high resolution" about this display. It's identical viewable/ppi in the middle 50% of the screen so for gaming, shooting targets etc target size and clarity will only be a 27" 1440p type experience.

I still will buy it to put against my PG32UQX!

i expect screens to last 5 years esp is costing north fo £2k. The technology to drive them catches up during that time.

Thing is you could get 2x the previous screen for one of these with money left over for a very heavy duty stand! Or get 2x these and the smaller version (g7?!) and literally surround yourself!

The $2499 will exclude tax for US. Thats your difference

I’d still love one. Don’t know if I can afford it though.

Me too. On paper it sounds like it'll be an amazing experience.

I used to have a G9 paired with a 3090 and did enjoy it. Sold everything now only have a 3060ti.. as I've gone the itx route.. so it's probably not worth it for me. I've decided to go for a used aw2721d instead. Still 240hz just half the monitor size :d, no proper dimming though :( I do miss my Acer x27 a bit.

Interesting, how come you went from a big guns '3090 + G9' experience to an ITX set up? I am on an mATX set up btw, one reason i couldn't get a 3090 was it would mean a complete rebuild for me and i didn't want to do that...

I go through phases of building pcs, getting annoyed with them due to unexplained stutter, then buying consoles. Then months later building pcs, then selling consoles. Lol.

Reason for the 3060ti is mainly because I loved a case (jonsplus Bo 100) and enjoyed having a minimalist desk.

I hope this new G9 has a better grip on it's firmware than the existing ones, it would seem the DisplayPort compression is the main problem but losing some standard resolutions and all custom resolutions when enabling 240hz is a big downside for me. Let alone all the display driver crashes when switching between resolutions or switching inputs :/

Don't get me wrong, I really like my G9 but it's such a faff that i'll likely be getting rid of mine once some of the 32" 4k@144hz+ come to market.
