****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

Just played on one this lunchtime at GAME.
Loved Pilotwings (graphically at least). 3D effect is a little wierd at first but then becomes natural.

I can see the problem with tilting the screen, but tbh, its a non starter problem for me.

Then I tried SSF4 and this is what killed it for me... yes it looked nice in 3D, and although it was faithful to the original, I cant help but feel it played a bit like the iPhone version (ok maybe thats not a fair thing to say but it certainly was a first impression).

Also the movement of characters doesnt seem as fluid as the console counterparts. I suppose it could be a big ask considering its just a handheld (but even with the 3D turned off there is no difference).

(But then games like Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur 4, look gorgeous and play ultra smooth on the PSP).

Initially (based on Pilotwings) I was like... **** wish I didnt cancel my preorder, but then after playing it for another 5 mins and after playing SSF4, I began to think, yep, looks nice, but a gimmick which I would probably turn off if Im playing in anger.

ssfiv runs identically to the console versions in 2D mode. In 3D it runs at 30fps.

2D mode = classic SSF4 side on view?
If so then I cant believe this is the case. The movement on console versions seems MUCH more fluid than on this. Its hard to describe, its as if there is a flickering effect (and yes the 3D was turned off).

Perhaps I will take another look...

I notice a distinct difference between 3D and 2D modes (always side on). 1 frame links are impossible in 3D.

I do notice a slight flcker if the 3D isn't properly off.

You have SFIV on the second best platform already anyway, no need to get it again on the worst.

What is the best platform?

Arcade cab of course

And to all those who think SSFIV will suck on 3DS well then you obviously never used to play Street fighter II on the snes :D, I think the controls are more than adequate enough for a bit of Street fighter 4 fun.

After seeing some footage of gameplay on this thingy, I'm quite impressed. I was thinking it was just a slightly improved DS but was obviously wrong. If I like what I see on the one I've preordered for my niece, I might buy myself one for the odd game on the train! :D

:D

I think they maybe made a mistake calling it the 3DS as it's easy for someone who hasn't read that much about it to mistake it for just a small alteration like the DS>DSi.

Even though the battery is going to be abysmal I'm going to bet third parties are going to develop a higher capacity battery. or atleast I hope they or Nintendo release a higher capacity.

Yep, there's a market for it, battery manufacturers will spot it and be falling over themselves to get alternative products out there.
