The **Now Eating** Thread

I decided to remake the banana bread in a loaf tin and coated the top with light brown sugar for a slight crunchiness. Even better this time! And a little tip for anyone making banana bread. You need over ripe bananas as they're sweeter and easier to mash, so the best time to make this quickbread is when you have bananas lying around getting black. If you have unripe bananas, stick them in the oven at 180 for 10 to 15 minutes which ripens them quicker.

Festive fryup. Quite liked the sausages, their pork, tomato and mozzarella chipolatas. And yes Im aware the eggs aren't very pretty. Their pre-made, you just heat the pack in boiling water for 3 - 4 minutes. Saw them in Morrisons and decided to give them a go. Not great looking, but tasted fine :)

A black pudding inside a lorne sausage - how very Scottish

I had Christmas dinner today at my dad and stepmums house. My stepmum is quite a good cook.

Broccoli and stilton soup to start with fresh crusty bread. Was nice! :)

Next course was some marinated prawns and side salad. My stepmum was concerned she had marinated them for too long, but they tasted fine to me.

Some lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate.

We had rack of lamb for the main course with roast potatoes and veggies. Never had rack of lamb for Christmas dinner before, but I enjoyed it. The meat was delicious :)

This was followed by some desserts made by my stepmum. Trifles, Victoria sponge and rose/pistachio macaroons. Lovely stuff! :)

And finally a cheese course with crackers. All in all a very enjoyable meal :)

Happy xmas La Cuisine regulars! :)

Very nice Craig, that food your stepmum put together looks great and the lamb looks super tasty! I was with family at my niece and her husband's house. Main meal was turkey with roast potatoes, parsnips, sprouts, pigs in blankets, stuffing and gravy. Still don't really like parsnips. I like that they have roast potato texture but don't like the sweetness. Choice of desserts including xmas pudding and custard which I went for. Other things throughout the day and evening including ice creams, biscuits, mini eclairs, sweets, chocolates, spring rolls and other finger foods with hoisin sauce, and general snacks like peanuts, crisps, etc. No shortage of food! And I baked them my chocolate genoise cake with whipped cream filling.

Craig, could you possibly find out where your stepmum got those long narrow rectangular serving plates that those delicious macarons and trifles are sitting on? They're exactly what I'm searching for as all the ones I've seen are too wide. Cheers!

I'll try to find out for you.

EDIT: She got them years ago at a market that was selling them off as they were end of line. She suggested googling hotel crockery suppliers.

These are similar but maybe not quite as long in length. :)

Wifes away until 31st so you know the score. Ordered a medium half/half from Doms but for some reason the base just wasn't as good as what I normally get. I guess the doughboy was on holiday. Lovely selection of hot and spicy flavours but the dough killed it.

Grilled up the rest of the packet of bacon I opened on Christmas Day till it was nice and crispy. Then stuck it between two slices of toasted bread and slathered on some HP sauce. That's good eating!

Looks like you've pulled a semi-eaten sub out of a bin and took a picture of it! :D

It does look like that, or even subway roadkill :D

I thought you were on a health drive re. mackerel ?
those type of patterned batch rolls you know it's not going to taste nice, just by looking .. save your daily calorie ration for home made cakes.

I'm still on the health kick, eating plenty of mackerel, steaming veg, fruit, etc. But I hadn't eaten all day and was out shopping and starving so stopped for the sub roll.
Was yummy!
