**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Been fighting stutter for a long time now.. Been really p*ssed at the nvidia driver team until i clean everything with DDU and pop in an old ATI 5850 and the latest catalyst 15.7 just to find out the stutter is exactly the same. I then format and reinstall Windows from a USB Pen with win 8.1(the same stick ive been using forever) and still stutter on the AMD and nvidia cards. I then format and install again but using an old installation of win 8.0 from back when i bought the upgrade key and after installing 173 updates and forceware 353.06 my 980 ti is now perfect and smooth in BF4 again. Diablo 3 is still a mess but that game is horribly put together. Even Grim Dawn an early access game i would have hardcore drops in is now sitting at 60+ fps and locked to 75.

Conclussion:
1) Either some update to Windows 8.1 has borked something up or
2) Something has happened to my USBPEN as it used to be fine but it gives no error and looks like it always have looked like when i use it for installation.

I know one thing, i dont dare updating to win 8.1 right now cause i would be sad if everything went back to stuttery mess after enduring 173+ updates. Its like watching paint dry..

I'm fairly convinced there has been a recent Windows update that has made things less than smooth - though I don't notice it in games so much 1-2 aside I've noticed video playback seems to have become a lot less smooth at some point (over a range of hardware) - when I dug out an old laptop not updated since 2007 theres a big difference compared to any of my systems running latest updates.

Its like a mixture of uneven frame times and every 4th and 5th frame being switched around and isn't related to a specific brand of GPU driver, refresh rate, dpc latency, codec pack, etc. etc.

Over a month now and no drivers.

They must be holding something back for Win 10's release.

Probably.

When you think about it, because it's free to anyone on 7 or 8, most people will be switching overnight to the new OS and new drivers.

Lets hope there's something worth waiting for.

That being said, I'm currently on 353.38 and they're rock solid.

There again, I don't have a 980Ti, owners of which seem to be having the most problems.

Well after downgrading to Windows 8.0 fully updated my 980ti has been working pretty good on its launch drivers 353.06. So i think i might just stay on this platform until 10 is released and reports are positive.

This is ridiculous, My 980Ti has been hard crashing all this week where only once the driver actually managed to recover (Windows 10).

I have a second PC running a MSI GTX 970 on Windows 7 and that has also been playing havoc lately with force shutdown and restarts, trying different driver versions new and old does not seem to be solving anything

I hope Nvidia solve this asap because even the latest hotfix drivers are not working and it's becoming increasingly frustrating!

I can launch any game and literally within 5-10 seconds boom it crashes the whole system.
