**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

What makes it better than RTX HDR or native HDRdone BTW the developer?
A lot of native HDR have bad implementations with black level raise so RenoDX fixes it. RTX HDR is AI post processing that converts SDR to HDR while RenoDX modifies game code to inject real native HDR. Also RTX HDR has a performance hit and other issues like crushing blacks, blowing out whites or having a game UI/subtitles be max brightness (can set UI brightness separately with RenoDX).

I like using RTX HDR on my media players but for games Reno is so much better and I highly advise anyone with a decent HDR display to try it. Once you know how to set it up it only takes a few clicks per game for a much better image.

This channel has some good videos on it:

Welcome to Nvidia. You will have no issues whatsoever with Nvidia drivers, they have been known to be super stable for many years now.

So upgrade with confidence, enjoy Nvidia's 'Nvidia exclusive' power saving features including random black screen, autocrash and many more.

;)
I read this wrong at first

my friends 5080/9800x3d is giving him all sorts of grief in bf6 crashes every other round

not everyone but several of the others keep complaining about crashes every night all on nvidia , had 3 since launch on my 9070xt but this could curse me

Just curious but do they all have secure boot enabled due to BF6's anti cheat requiring it ?

First question is are they running any overclocks?

Mine would crash every time I alt tabbed or lost game focus. Changing from fullscreen to Borderless Window fixed that.

I'm on a 4090 (undervolted), 9950x3d which is also, clocked & tweaked to an inch of it's life, 8200mt ram tweaked to the max too, and I never crash in any game..

but I spend a lot of time hard testing everything. from mem - with karhu, CPU with Aida64 and y-cruncher and so on.. It has to be stable in everything I test..

This method has never failed me, all my sons PC's are the same and they never crash either..

The point is, most crashes are down to Bios configs, and hardware not set up correctly.. Yes there is games and software that can caused issues too.

a lot of crashing is also fixed by increasing your swapfile from auto to a large manual size, as I've found windows auto mode to be useless.

The 5000 series don't seem as stable overall as the 4000 series for some reason. Crashes with the 9800X3D may be issue with the CPU - while rare there are some failing.

every driver i have installed since 566.36 has the frametime graph looking awful in afterburner, tells me its low but instead of it being a straight line it looks lmore like ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||, go back to 566.36 and its back to ------------------------- :P

Yeh, it's a tad annoying.

Only happens when using FG though.

Bad AI bots, bad bots!

I'm really glad I read through the later stages of this thread as this seems to have cured my issue, which was :-

BF6, if I started the game after having other programs open it would crash during first game without fail.

Not just a game crash, the game would crash graphically first, sound would continue for a while but the PC would need resetting.

If I started the game immediately from booting windows then it wouldnt crash at all.

I manually set swapfiles as suggested by Locky above and last night played at least 6/7 rounds with no problem at all.

Will try again tonight and report back.

I'm happy that helped out..

Another game thats sensitive to virtal memory size is pubg..

I think its games with memory leaks that the devs just ignore..

I've also posted this in the BF6 thread as Ive noticed VRAM at the start of a game is 8gb but by the end of the rouund / match it has exceeded vram on my card.
Googling that it seems others are putting it down to a memory leak so you are probably correct.
I can get round that by reseting the graphics settings periodically.

Thanks again :D

How do you change the size of the swap file? And what would be a good amount?

How do you change the size of the swap file? And what would be a good amount?
  1. Open Advanced system settings: Press the Windows key + I to open Settings, then go to System > About. Click on Advanced system settings. Alternatively, you can search for "Advanced system settings" in the Start menu and open it directly.
  2. Navigate to performance settings: In the System Properties window, click Settings... under the "Performance" section.
  3. Open virtual memory settings: In the Performance Options window, click the Advanced tab, then click Change... under the "Virtual memory" section.
  4. Disable automatic management: Uncheck the box that says "Automatically manage paging file sizes for all drives" to enable custom settings.
  5. Set custom sizes:
    • Select the drive you want to modify (usually the C: drive).
    • Select the Custom size radio button.
    • Enter a value in megabytes (MB) for both Initial size and Maximum size. A common recommendation is to set the initial size to 1.5 times your RAM size.
  6. Apply and save changes: Click Set, then click OK on all open windows.
  7. Restart your computer: A restart is required for the changes to take full effect.
