**The OcUK Benchmarks thread!**

drum roll.....

And
The winner IS....

The 680...by a ball hair :)

I guess what we can take from this is that their is no 'clear' winner in this any more, though that AMD rep saying the 7970 out right beats a 680 is clearly wrong unless 12.10 is going to bring another 10% to the party.

Yeah pretty much.

Here was my own Operation Swordbreaker run on a single card. From out the LAV to the end part where you clear the house with rockets...

The 680's average FPS seem (on average) a fair amount higher. I wonder why...

They do indeed, my last bench was from the time demo linked earlier (as was the scores taken from gregster).

My 7970 JC2:DS benches are up in the main thread, and for the lazy:

There would be no chance of telling what GPU was used in either machine if you didn't use AB or similar. As much of an Nvidia fan I am, I can see AMD have done well with recent drivers and good to see :)

Exactly, with frame rates like that on either card you'd have to be looking at the FPS counter the whole time.

20fps onto the minimum fps, impressive. That's only a mild overclock. :)

Just Cause 2 seems to scale really well with the OC, to think I first played that game on a pair of 9800GTX+'s at around 40fps with med settings :D

Edit: Its worth pointing out that with either card on BF3, you can near double the frame rates by dropping HBAO and to 2xaa :)

That 12.9 whql or 12.10 beta? I'll re-run vital games on new drivers also.

Running kepler at stock will be tricky due to boost, the only way around it is to disable boost and set static 3d clocks at the stated boost minimum. Not sure if you can set a negative boost?

Edit, it's 12.11 see final8ys thread will update tonight. Seems to gain a good 10-15% over 12.7 :o

12.11 looks impressive, benches from 12.11 coming tonight, see how much truth the reviews carry.

@LtMatt stuck in the workshop all day, if/when 12.11 is leaked/released can you either put a link in here or fire it over to me in trust :)

Some gains supposedly in heaven too, might have another bash at de-throning 8 pack before his matrix arrives.

If I can I'll re run bf3 tonight and do another clock for clock vs gregsters 680 and vs 12.9 so we can put to bed this seemingly ignorant conclusion that 7970 +12.11 destroys the 680 in bf3.

My personal guess is that the difference will be 1-3 fps difference on average and minimums to the 'winner'.

It was only for a clock for clock comparison, I tend to game at 1070/1400 which I find is enough even pre-12.11. Will be seeing what the memory can do in heaven at the weekend, I wonder if correction limits have changed with the gcn tweaks. Could settle around 1950 with 12.9.

And as rusty said, no brand bashing even if it is said in jest, its just a de-railing argument ready to happen :)

The differences in performance is roughly the 5% or so we saw between the 680 & 7970 with 12.9. Can't go wrong with either card imo.

What's the margin now with multi cards over a large resolution? As I understand the amd cards tend to perform better even with older drivers, has that margin now increased significantly?

Speaking of next gen, we must be due a refresh on amd's top line sometime in the next 5 months, either that or they could really wait for nvidia to move, they no longer have to play catch up like they did with the 580.

I'll update results either tonight or tomorrow depending when I finish work.

I know cleee is busy at the moment but I'll ask if he can do some tri screen dual 7970 runs.

Dual monitor results look pretty good, gives me an insight into performance for when I lay my hands on a 21:9 monitor (2560x1080, essentially ~2 screens minus a little).

I'll get a mod to clean up a little, see what I mean when I say something in jest can derail a thread? ;)

Kiss and make up guys, you love each other really :D

Hahah :p

I've picked up enthusiasm for changing stuff (again). MSI Big Bang Xpower II heading my way and possibly a bench table for temp use until I get my new case (XSPC H1+) :D

Quite shocked at the prices of those LTG BE's though, £20-45 more than the Matrix plat, though it does officially become THE fastest out of the box 7970 in the process. Just need someone to give me both the stock and LN2 bios ;)
