The OCUK Guitar Warriors Competition

penski, any chance of a tab for the 1st one?

It's a case of work it out yourself, I'm afraid.

I can't play guitar as such...So I play notes or basic chords and use a PC-based sequencer to arrange them.

The only part that isn't sequenced is the plinky intro...Which was recorded in one take using a digiloop and a few FX...And a bit of tapping on the scratchplate to get that percussive sound.

The main riff is pretty simplistic, should be easy to work out...

I make no pretences about being able to play the guitar - I'm all thumbs and can just about hold a chord. Bass is okay now but would pick up rapidly if I practiced regularly.

Get your entries in, I wanna see how this plays out

You know, I know, other forum members know and all the Dons know that the people we really want to hear are not going to take part.
What was said in the other thread - put up or shut up.

We'll see how this pans out for a couple of weeks and drop hints to the Guitar Warriors. Of course all the entries so far aren't from the Guitar Warriors which we all expected anyway.

Ah...I didn't know this.

Have people been willy-waving about their mad guitar skills, yo?

I think dmpoole got fed up with members slagging the skilled musicians off and saying that certain skills were easy so he's asked them to prove it.
There is a sinister side to his motives but also a good side where we've heard what the none guitar warriors get up to. I'm still waiting for those warriors to prove themselves but I doubt we'll hear them.

jesus christ penski, you're stuff is frickin awesome! can you list the software that you've used to create that?

Usual stuff for the breaks and sequencing:

Reason
Cubase
Fruity Loops
Acid
A bit of Ableton.

One of the effects on the plinky intro is actually thanks to Microsoft Notepad. Seriously.

Open an MP3 in Notepad, copy the text, paste to another copy of notepad and Save As>blah.mp3

Strange underwater-style FX.

penski.. a little OT but..

Just out of interest, do you tend to ReWire Reason into Cubase SX or do you just make the clip in Reason and export it to Cubase SX?

I've been loving the ReWiring, makes life so much easier. esp when you can get a whole orchestra behind you :D.
