Both the battery pump and my big maglite take the same batteries, so I'd have been taking those anyway. Also, the pump cost £7.99. Shop I got it from said they'd tried an electric pump, battery pump, and hand pump, and they were all about the same speed. :)

Didn't have that much problem with the pegging - it was getting the poles in and out that caused more chaos. On unpegging the tent, it decided to try to go into orbit, so it came down uncontrollably and somewhat quicker than I was comfortable with.
Ah yes, the whippy pole syndrome. Suggested method: Detach one end of pole, stick it in the turf while leaving the flysheet still pegged down, undo the other end and take the pole out while holding that end.

Another suggestion is keeping a roll of insulating tape in the pole bag and just put one turn of tape round each end of each set of poles when they're folded down - it makes it sooooooo much easier to get them out again next time.

On the subject of airbed pumps, from a certain high st. catalogue shop:

£7.99 IIRC, no batteries required, gentle tummy exercise included free.;)

*Austin Powers* "It's not miiiiiine baby!"

Maybe I shouldn't open the next beer!

Don't know how anyone can put a tent up in nasty weather.

ahh that may be a problem, it always rains when you camp in wales ;)

anyone travelling down from east midlands area? :D

Originally by Treefrog in Motors:
I might try to persuade my eldest to babysit the other two for the Friday night of the camping meet. Throwovers, tankbag and bungee the tent on the back seat.

Any update on this possibility? :)

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten that. Either that, or the wind lifts up your 6-man Wendy house and drops it on top of the car at 0600. Cue four people lying in the middle of a field wondering WTF?

Not mentioned it yet, I'll keep you up to date though.

I have now decided, officially, and without fear of doubt, that...

I hate sleeping bags

Getting in them, and packing them away, seem to be the most difficult aspects.

The new one arrived this morning, and I fit, but I haven't mastered the art of doing up the zip or putting it away, yet. :p

Yeah they're impossible to get into properly :D
And erm packing away.....I've never really done that yet besides with a bit of string as only ever used them at LANs.
Not sure if anyone's suggested it already but it may be an idea for those that have to have a comfy sleep, to bring a pillow ;)

Yup, I'm already researching a suitable pillow for the trip. :)

String works (for the sleeping bag), but I'll have another fight with it later. I can put the small ones away just fine, but this new one traps air so well that you squash it down one end and it just blows up the other.

Doh, the 8th is my anniversary. I think my beloved would go balistic if I suggested spending the weekend in a field in Wales with a bunch of people I/we barely know :(

I need to get on one of these meets so at least I can say I've met you all :)

It's also funny that I've never heard of St Petrox, even though I've been to Stackpool, Bosherston, Castlemartin and so on. I recognise Loveston and even Yerbeston, but not St Petrox :(

You'd think that after living in the area for most of my life I'd have at least heard about it :D

Pillows!!!!!!!!!

Fold your jeans up, roll them in a fleece, job done.:D

Tell her you've arranged a surprise weekend party with loads of ace people just for her.;) How can she resist?

Good point on the folded clothes, that's certainly one option (folded clothes under the top of the sleeping bag in my case, the bag's plenty thick enough to provide any padding).

That's a tip from my m/c rallying days - you tend to be a bit short of room on a bike.;) Except it was my bike boots wrapped in my leather. And the last one I went to I forgot the tent pegs - not good in a ridge tent.:(

You obviously do not know my missus ;)

Having said that, she actually suggested going to a meeting of the TSSC next tuesday in Zouch. I was pretty amazed, to say the least. She's also partially agreed to the 2006 Round Britain Run with Club Triumph, so who knows, by this time next year she may even be prepared to attend the annual OcUK summer party ;)

And she has changed her stance from "You'll never get me driving that bloody thing" to "Maybe I can take it to work one day, on a nice day when there's a meeting at Matlock, it may be quite nice..."

These things take time, sometimes you have to lead the horse to the water and then just wait patiently for the first taste ;)

I'm also aiming to get along to the next rolling road day, she seemed amiable enough when I was talking about the last "end of April" data, but we were busy.

Work has suddenly changed for the summer (mentioned about it to some at the AT meet as to why I couldn't go), and all of a sudden it looks like I can turn up (if there is still space?)

I'll be booking holiday with my boss tomorrow for those dates! Whoopeee!

I'll be driving from Sussex, thats (off the top of my head) M23, M25, M4. If there is anyone along my way that needs / would like a lift I'm happy to try and oblige you in that.
