It's as safe a bet as any. Interest in Whisky is only going one way, even if the price goes up even further as a result of this.
Hunt defends alcohol duty hike after criticism from Scotch whisky sector
The Scotch Whisky Association is demanding an urgent meeting with the Chancellor after he announced a 10.1% increase in alcohol duty from August.www.standard.co.uk
Bad news! Not surprised he saw an opportunity to cash in on some duty though, prices just keep going up so distilleries/retailers must have been seeing some fairly nice profits in the last couple of years. Here's hoping the market won't really sustain much more price rise - but that's clearly wishful thinking. Better stock up...!
yes. not the other way around. Also taxing by % is going to remove some of the better drams if the big players target lower % offerings to try and limit the price hike. OR more of the good stuff will go overseas if they are not subject to as much tax so buy it more, or if the duties don't get applied to exported sales.Shouldn't they be putting the extra duties on imported whiskies to help the local industries?

That's been the case for a while, I got some amazing prices from a germany website a few years ago, which I think was possibly due to VAT not being added at somepoint in the brexit hoohaa. I've emailed them more than once since to see if they'll ever ship to UK again! e.g. right now they have Talisker 10 for EUR 28.99You know its ridiculous when you can buy Scotch in Germany for less than the UK.
I loved it. The chap there was super friendly and free and easy with the try this enthusiasm. Got the Benromach and IB Bunny from there. Both really good.Awesome! What did you make of Whisky Castle?
Cheers. Oban-Craignure looks ok after May 14th (fingers crossed).Oban make some nice stuff, but not been to the distillery so can't say if it's worth a visit or not. FYI the ferries are in a right state atm. Check before making travel plans, don't just rely on past experience.
If you like that you may want to check out the American whiskey thread for more ideas about other bottles to try.About half way through a bottle of Jack Daniels Rye. Actually not bad especially for the £20 I paid. Much more my taste compared to the standard JD.
Lots of good choice at £50ish...Spec me a scotch, budget £50
As a guide I like Glenfiditch 15, actually that’s on offer at the moment £40.

GlenAllachie 12, or stretch for the 15, Tobermory 12 is on offer at masterofmalt, Bunnahabhain 12 also on offer, I'm partial to a Benromach a couple at or under £50.
Fancy something different these peaty numbers are great: Port Charlotte 10 a smidge over budget but one of my favourites, Ledaig is a good drop.
I'd either be stretching for the GA15 or getting the PC10 - I love that stuff.

The Rioja cask, I’m keen to try, just hoping it’s not to overpowering.
I need to try that Ledaig Rioja cask. I loved Tullamore Dew and Arran's wine casks, a peated one would be interesting.
