The OCUK Whisky (and Whiskey) review thread

Monkey Shoulder is quite a nice easy to drink blend although fairly similar in price to some decent entry level single malts. If you know what sort of whisky they normally prefer then someone might be able to recommend a single malt alternative but equally there's nothing wrong with a nice blend from time to time.

Got a bottle of Auchentoshan Three Wood in the Amazon Black Friday. Opened it yesterday and I'm really impressed. It has a really good depth of flavour that I ususally find in Islay malts but it doesn't have the peatyness. So if people are looking for something quite full bodied then I'd recommend giving it a go.

That's something I want to get next, only seen the Auchentoshan American Oak in my local supermarket though, the Three Wood is around £45 from various online places.

I was bought a bottle of Auchentoshan 12 for my birthday. Absolutely lovely. Obviously doesn't beat the 21yo I was bought a few birthdays ago but you know what -- it's not that far off. Do any other brands triple-distil like Auchentoshan? The smoothness and mouthfeel is so noticeable, it's awesome.

Triple distillation is common in Ireland but not in Scotland. Hazelburn is the only other one I can think of.

It was the mother in laws funeral on Friday, all the family are coming together again today for a Sunday roast so have bought a bottle of Aberlour 10y/o to raise a toast at the end.

Picked up a bottle of Johnie Walker Black on the weekend as it was on a special at Waitrose and I can't recall ever having tried it before.

Very pleasantly surprised, even more so as I'm not usually a fan of peated whisky - however this was far from overbearing and only really noticed on the finish. very tasty and would happily buy again.

Depends what you are willing to pay.
Yellow Spot is one you can't go wrong with, and I've just ordered a Method And Madness Single Pot Still as it was sold out for a while. Powers is very easy to drink. Bushmills have Red Bush which is very watery, go for Bushmills 10 or 12 instead.
Or if you have deeper pockets, Midleton Very Rare & Redbreast 21 which I highly recommend.

The Midleton Method and Madness Single Pot Still arrived yesterday so i had to have a taste.

It's a very different finish (chestnut casks as opposed to the usual oak used for whisk(e)y) and provides a very polished finish.

It's very smooth but not in the same way you would usually get with a triple distillation. Think I might be ordering another bottle quite soon.
