The OCUK Whisky (and Whiskey) review thread

Currently doing a placement for Glenmorangie and have now tried their entire range of expressions for both Glenmorangie and Ardbeg.

Favourite ones being Ardbeg Uigeadail - no proper notes; spicey, smokey, mildly citrus, maybe even my favourite whisky
and Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban.

Thanks to the staff shop I have a bottle of each at home as well as a SMWS 4.131 (20 y/o 1st fill sherry)

I have far to many bottles last count 21 bottles I collect rare malts don't tell the wife ;)

I'm new to single malts, so I've started off with some of the ones that always get recommended for beginners... Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie and Glenlivet.

For my next purchase, I was going to jump in at the deep end and buy one of the Islay single malts, so I could sample one of the more peated whisky's.

I do have a Scottish friend who has recommended I try a blend called 'Black Bottle', which is a blend of Islay malts. I saw this for sale in Tesco today for ~£14 - seems very good value for money. Has anyone tried this?

Cant go wrong with Glenlivet. Laphroaig takes a bit of getting used to but once you do, u want more and more. Currently sampling Aberlour 10yr, very similar to glenlivet.

I drink them all straight at room temp now. No water, no ice.

If anyone's in Aberdeen they should really try "The Grill", an amazing bar that pretty much just sells whisky. Had a Jura in there that had been aged in a cabernet sauvignon cask... It was amazing, but it should be at £13 a nip!

Currently going through a bottle of Longrow, after barely having had any whisky at all during the summer. It's very very peaty and smoky, reminds me of certain Islays even though it's not from there. Needs a splash of water to get the full aroma out but I love it!

Thread necromancy for the victorah! :) Now drinking Benriach 15. Was matured in sherry casks and you can tell, it has a strong, unmistakable, honest-to-goodness sweetness to it - you can smell raisins, never had any other whisky like this!

ooh, sounds good manveruppd - the Glenmorangie Lasanta i've got on the go at the moment is very simlar, might have to try that next though :)

Also just got a Jura Prophecy recently and its a bit of a beast - nice and sweet from the sherry but with a good strong smoky and peaty punch

I've just ordered some Chivas Regal for my brother for Christmas, I know its at the lower end of the scale but he likes it and its seen as a good entry level whisky I beleive

I was looking at that Monkey Shoulder as it comes with a gift set from a certain retailer for about £30, whats it like?

Darn, I went to get a bottle of 'Black Bottle' from Tesco yesterday and it seems they have stopped selling it - in my local store at least.

Heads up though, Tesco do have a few offers on whiskys atm. Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich are £20 each. Glenlivet is £22.

Also, the Co-Op has Glenmorangie on offer for just under 20 notes too :)

The Co-Op/Somerfield have been doing cracking deals of late, had Aberlour 10 at £17 earlier this month. Seem to be changing it weekly, I should have mentioned it in here. Worth checking one out if you are local to one though.
