The Offical Lian Li PC-A05 Owners Discussion/Modding Thread!

You might want to be wary of hot air from the PSU being recirculated back into the case by the front intake. Although if you have an efficient PSU this might be much of a problem.

Dont see a problem with it, but wouldnt you have to do something about the psu?

You will have warm air vented out from the PSU and cooler air being forced in from the front fan.

One of the reasons i went for this case is its airflow system which for me seems to be working remarkably well.

Yeah true, I'm just going to leave it as nature (lian li) intended. plus the bs-03 with a good fan balance. I run a very lean system anyway so will be more then good enough.

Should arrive tuesday. Will get some pics posted up.
Really looking forward to it!

@ Benjo,

Your system looks really good mate, what kinds of temps are you getting on your Quad?

Hi, sorry, i didn't see this before! My Q6600 is at 3.6Ghz at the moment, and it's idling at 35c. On load, i get about 55c. It has been hotter though, mainly because my 8800GTS is pumping hot air straight into the rad.

Anything wrong with changing the air flow? I was thinking of having the front as an intake (filtered) with a top exhaust fitted + the bottom exhaust. Keeping a slight positive air pressure.

I've seen this done before, you just need to put something across to separate the front fan from the PSU outlet. The case I saw used some draft excluder foam which had an adhesive back stuck as the separator. The foam can be stuck to the front panel and trimmed to fit.

That way the front fan draws cool air though the side vents on the front panel and most of the warm PSU air goes out of the vent at the bottom of the front panel.

On mine, i've got the front and rear fans pulling air in. The front fan is directly behind the hard drives, and it was getting pretty hot there. So now i've got air coming in from the back and front. Both fans have dust filters, and theres a positive air pressure in there so i doubt i'll get any dust. Temps are good too :)

Just finished my build in this. Have to say...... Awesome case. Got it out of the box and was thinking it looks pretty good as soon as I started working on it it became apparent just how awesome it is. A lot more room than I first though and everything just fits perfectly. I've had contact with few lian li's recently and not been very impressed but this has knocked my socks off. That hard forum thread is also a great reference so cheers Rich.

Will get some pics up tomorrow.

The bs-03 i ordered came in just a jiffy bag and someone had been beating the outside as its so dented. So that's going back. I'm actually wondering weather or not i'll need it at all. I got a 2000rpm on the back and a 800rpm on the front so i'd imagine a lot of air will get pushed up to the top of the case and i've also got a dual slot GPU that exhaust so I'm going to run some test.

The card in question idles at 47c in my Omega and loads around 58-60c if its any where close to those figure (within 5c) I'm going to leave it be.

Cards running at 2c above what it was, I'm going the mess slots route as well. Got some more to do still but its getting there.

Thats looking really nice mate...good job...any chance of seeing all of the internals.....i mean the messy stuff :-)

I've got a bit more too do like braiding the white sharkoon cables and adding some mesh pci slots and then a little cable tidy. The messy isnt too bad

more pics tomorrow, LOVE THIS CASE!!

Well just finished installing the mesh pci slots. Temps on the GPU are idle at 41c and load at 54c so they are down 5c w00t.

If I put my fingers to the mesh pci slots I can actually feel them exhausting air. as i've got a 2000rpm fan in-taking and only an 800rpm exhausting + the psu there must be a nice amount of positive pressure running through the case.

Very pleased tbh

This is really looking very nice mate, im going to be doing some more braiding and tidying on mine and some subtle lighting effects then it will be complete.

What temps are you seeing under full load and off load Tetsu?

Excellent news

Does the top of the case at the back feel cooler with the extra vents ?

I've gone braiding mad as well, I'd never really bothered before but thought I'd have a go on this build and now I can't stop :D It makes things so much neater and easier to manage although it does get a little smelly as I've learned to seal the cut ends of the braid before I use them with a lighter which stops them fraying before you trap them under the heat shrink.

I've also applied the Akasa foam, I have found that it made a big difference on mine especially doing the back of the MB tray which is where I was getting some resonance from.

Yeah I use a hot knife on the braid as well. I use my wifes Sabatier knifes and she goes ******* mad! good clean cut though :D

Yeah the mesh pci slots definatly make a difference but only becasue air is being forced up and through. They look good as well.

Looking good

What are the fans like noise wise ?

I tried some sharkoons then some S-flex and finally the Noctua's and the Noctua's win hands down on air flow vs noise.

Fans are great. The 1000's are basically silent. The 2000's are pretty loud however due to them being at the back of the rig they are dampened a lot. If you take them down to around 1800 they are very good noise wise.

Its a bit sad but the colours of the noctua put me off them even though they are the best fans out there.

Yep, agree on the colours. What we need is Noctua's with black body and bright green or blue blades

I bit the bullet as I wasn't going to see them once the case was back together but it doesn't matter how hard you try you can't forget that they are there, lurking, in their beige/brown colour scheme ;)

Basically Noctua = NHS fans :D

but yeah black body with blue blades would be nice.

Inspired...!

Hi all. Really liking this thread for what I also think is one of the most gorgeous cases on the market!

I am just in the process of upgrading my flaggin rig and thought I would 'steal' some of the great ideas on here to customise my own AO5 B.

Two questions-

1) It's probably on here somewhere but would someone be able to post me the link to lowering the voltage on the fans. I seem to remember there was a post (ages ago!) about doing this on the PC07. Any help greatly appreciated!

2) I have added another mesh grill to the front of the machine (spare 5.25 drive bay). I may look at adding another fan here but was also interested in adding some illumination to the case which would be visible through the grill. I have no experience of adding lighting to systems but have tried led fans and these are not sufficient. Are cathode ray tubes the way to go and would there be any things to consider when mounting?

My initial upgrade bits are arriving tomorrow so will try to get some pics up over the next couple of days. :)

Cheers!
