The Offical Lian Li PC-A05 Owners Discussion/Modding Thread!

AFAIK the windowed sides people use are DIY, there is a vented panel that fits the A05 that comes from the G50 which is what some of the guys on the Hardforum use.

There are loads of window kits available though and some places will custom cut panels and fit windows for you if you don't fancy DIY. If you use a kit with thick beading you can't really go wrong if you're careful it's more difficult with the thin/no beading as you have to get the cut edges straight/clean.

thought this'd be the best place to ask, i'm planning on finally building a PC in this case early next year (been wanting to use this case on a build since it came out!), using about 6 month - 1 year old tech (to save on money, ie, it'll be a core 2 duo not an i7 etc) is there anything i should watch out for with this case ie things that wont fit (length of GPU, size of CPU HS/F) planning on drilling out the HDD bays anyway if that helps.

thanks for any help :)

Length wise the only issue I had was using an old DVDR as they are longer than the newer drives and it clashed with my GTX260. The newer drives are ~20mm+ shorter so have no issues

The only other issue is possible heat build up in the top of the case if you use a full length GC, vented PCI covers are worth getting and you can use a slot cooler, Lian Li BS-03 or cut a top vent (which is what I did).

ahh, excellent, just the stuff i needed to know (without searching the whole [H]ardforum thread ^^) i'd already guessed i was going to need to add a fan to the top somehow, how do you rate the akasa exhaust blower?

My A05B should arive today along with my part x'd board and my Hx520 the following day so im prety excited to get it. ill post some pics of my build when its ready.
loving some of ythe work done allready, seriously concidering a 220.2 vent mod on the top panel, looks cool and serves a purpose aswell!

They are OK but noisy, I think the BS-03 is a better bet or a BS-08B for a full length blower.

I'd put a fan in the top of the case though as it will give the best air flow and can be low speed/low noise. The top's dead easy to cut with either a hole saw or a dremel and a matt black grille matches the case really well.

i was hoping to avoid cutting the case, but i'm not totally against it, i'll keep it in mind :) (course it would also mean buying a dremel again :()

You can use a hacksaw blade, a drill and a file if you don't want to purchase a dremel, I did this on my first case and it works OK just takes longer (but as the A05 is Ally it's dead easy to cut). Should not take too long if you just go for a single 120mm cut out and doesn't have to be mega neat if you get the right grille as it will cover the cut edges anyway.

Just drill a few holes in a row so they join then insert the blade and cut one side at a time, you'll have to leave metal at the corners for the mounting screws but that will depend on the fan/grille you choose. The drill you probably can borrow if you have not got one and hack saw blades are a couple of pounds for 5.

Mine up to now...

Anyway will post a final pic up once finished :)

going to order mine tomorrow if OcUK still have them in stock, got nothing to put in it like, but it won't hurt to have it there when i need it :D (can always start modding it in preparation :))

looking good so far Hyb, what motherboard have you got in there (the ao5)

Some real nice cases in here, good work guys. If I had the spare £'s for a little rig I think this would be my choice of case.

Everyone agreed that the noctuas are better than the sharkoons then? I mean, worth the extra money for the silence, or is there a better price/performance silent fan? I reckon over £8 is pretty pricey for a fan, especially when i'll need about 4 for my rig!

My other question is, a lot of you have the Akasa mats in the case, do these really help dampening the sound or is it to just neaten things up?

Its a asus striker2fornumla:eek:

O and as for the noctua they are a top class fan ive 10 in my 343b:D

As for the sharkoons for the price good fan + mine are the 1000rpm one,s so should be quiet:cool:

i am really beginning to think about getting one of these and swap it with my antec 300...

can you get windows for the a05? I almost imagine that the pc7 window side panel would fit but i cant seem to work out what size the a05 is in relation.

*breaks open piggy bank*

the ao5 is shorter, by a good way, you can DIY, or get a professional to cut it for a fee

Just bits sat about tbh,and just got a 50 inch plasma so thought build a media centre:)

lol! don't boast! flipping £200 mobo for a media centre

:D

are those the 1000 or 2000 rpm sharkoons, and how do you rate them? it's a toss up between them or the 120mm noctuas, but at double the price i'm leaning toward the sharkoons...
