Why would it be useless? I am interested in running office apps and chrome. I wanted to find out the current state of performance.
Because the number of apps that will work on ARM is about six :D

It may well be Windows but don't expect to be able to download any software that's written for Windows and expect it to run.

That clears everything up. The entry level Air may or may not be enough and the 14" Pro might not arrive but if it does could be much more expensive :o

I'm in no hurry so I'll see if I can get my hands on an Air to see whether I could live with the smaller screen and then take it from there.
Buy it. Try it for ten days and send it back for a full refund if you don’t like it.

Is everyone still finding the M1 to be "enough"?
Yup, without a doubt whatsoever.

It'll be a huge increase over what you've already got.

I edit videos from time to time and I'd rather do it on my M1 MBA than my 2017 27" i7 iMac. I recently had about twenty minutes of 4K drone footage to edit and I did it all on the M1 MBA. It was noticeably quicker to work on and then export than the iMac.

Do any of you guys use Aldente the battery management app ? (AppHouseKitchen – Mac Software for the Gourmet).
No. I have coconut battery installed but that's not management, just monitoring because I like the percentage remaining indicator. I often notice that the MBA itself is keeping the battery at 80% rather than topping it off, so it's doing its own management. I don't see any need for a third party app to do something like that.

/edit - Heat management? Heat? On an M1 MBA? Yeah, that's really not needed :D

Really ? i thought everyone was raving about these new chips  My only concern about them is no fan in these new M chip Airs.
Although the one in the i5 does very little to cool it down.
In normal use, you won’t really notice and difference between an M1 or M2 MacBook Air but even the base model M1 will run rings around your i5 MBA.

No need to be concerned about the lack of fan. I never once felt my M1 MBA get warm and I think I’ve only felt the M2 get slightly warm just once or twice. They don’t need fans because they run cold!
