Are the 16" M1 Max versions in short supply or is it just because it is so soon after launch day?

Mine only arrived on Monday - two weeks earlier than originally estimated however. They didn't even adjust the estimate. I got a text about shipping on Saturday and Monday was here.

The shipping date for my 16" has come down by 2 weeks, so fingers crossed it gets here even earlier! Went for pretty much top spec apart from 2tb instead of 8tb.

Anyone seen any hard shell cases released yet? And assuming previous docks will be compatible?

I'm really, really struggling not to get one of these. I sold my 2018 MBP this year when I got my Mini, as given I've not been in an office in 2 years, I just didn't need it. But now I quite fancy having the freedom to work from coffee shops or various places, just for a change of scenery

My only issue is, the lack of being able to run Windows properly for the odd occasion I'd need development work. So then I go looking at Windows laptops and every time I just come back to the MacBook Pro's, for the screen, the design, the performance etc etc etc but the M1 chips have really made them non-starters for Windows use. With my old Intel MBP, I had loads of VM's on there for various clients depending on what I was working on and it was perfect. I didn't even need my desktop PC then, but now, being able to run an insider only build of Windows, especially ARM that doesn't support, or recommend running Visual Studio, it's not really practical

BUT I STILL WANT ONE!

What's wrong with Visual Studio for Mac out of interest? I only use it to write PowerShell scripts and other random stuff but it works perfectly fine for me. If you do need Windows, you have have cloud based VMs running for not much money at all.

Oh nothing at all, where possible I use it. Anything written in .Net Core then I can use it, but unfortunately in my line of work, most of the frameworks I work on are .Net Framework, and some ancient infrastructure in place preventing an easy route to convert over to .Net Core. Which means I’m stuck on Windows when working on that stuff

I've managed to resist thus far, I did order one but the order got screwed up and I was semi-thankful. Realistically I use a terminal, a web browser and VS Code for the majority of my work, so I don't need one, but god damn do I want one. I'm going to stick with the 2020 Mac Mini I have I think.

Had a look at them today in the Apple store in Bluewater. Can’t decide on size - I usually just get the biggest version of everything but clearly the 14” is far more portable. There’s no sign of a decent 5K+ standalone display from them though and for now it’ll be used primarily at home… decisions decisions.

Just got mine today.

Thorik>Ya know I don't even do the stuff you do. But I still got one cos a)shiny and b)shiny+1.

Thorik>I also have the same monitor as you and it is glorious hooked up to it...also we have an ipad pro and teh same phone more or less. My bro from a different Mo. we could be twinsies....I posted in the show off your mac hardware thread ;)

LG 5k ultrafine?

Seems discontinued in the UK. I’m hoping along with the new larger iMac / iMac Pro redesign we get a standalone display for Mini owners or iMac Pro owners that’s an diet version of the Pro XDR monitor for the Mac Pro, but that’s blind faith more than anything. Apple have been listening to what users want with the latest stuff so hopefully that was a thing.

I didn't know they discontinued it. All I know is soon I will be looking for a new monitor to replace this 27 inch 4k. I would want at least 30-32. Failing that I could get a large ultra wide. The problem with that is that I am so use to my iPad Pro M1 screen and my LG CX used as as monitor it difficult for me to accept no matter how good nano IPS is it's not even close. I am hoping when they release the M1 Mac mini Max they will release a standalone monitor which doesn't cost the earth like the pro xdd display. I did even consider one a while back. But I don't photo edit or video edit or anything that would justify me getting one. I just like good picture quality. The blooming on this MacBook is nowhere as pronounced as an iPad Pro m1 but then again I don't like my screen at high brightness so it never bother me in the first place. And maybe it just me but the iPad Pro m1's seem to have a slightly brighter screen under normal usage.

LG 5k ultrafine?

This is a GREAT screen, I have a couple of them. There's a bit of an issue with them on the M1 units however - it dims when it comes out of sleep. Doesn't sound like an issue but it's a pain, as you have to go into Preferences/Displays and change the brightness slider. PITA.

MacRS4>Maybe you can help me. I have just received my macbook pro and I am using it with a LG 4k. It's model number is LG27UK850.

I have connected the Macbook using USB-C. I then close my macbook and when it goes to sleep sometimes it comes out of sleep but a majority of time it doesn't. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

How is everyone else finding the performance?

I've had my 14" MBP for a week now but the performance on it has been really bad. Just general browsing, email, youtube etc, nothing taxing. I'm getting really slow responses, images missing from websites, sites freezing for 5-10 seconds at a time and being unresponsive then coming back to life again. Also finding some startup apps freezing on first boot (E.G by Logitec Mouse control software).

CPU usage is low, under 10%, RAM usage is higher than I expected at 11-12gb in use.

Anyone else having similar issues?
