I'm finally Windows free! I've been allocated a 16 inch paving slab MacBook pro by work and I'm mostly happy with it. The MagSafe cable back is back in the box as it's an abomination, they should have put more Type C ports in its place. I've been through the suggested software in the other thread and installed Rectangle which is cool, also signed in with my personal Apple ID to get all of the integration working as well.
Paving slab - sums it up perfectly! But I still love it :)
I initially used only the magsafe cable as it made "docking" and "undocking" with my desktop setup easier.
However, since I changed monitors I now have USB-C input so that has negated the magsafe altogether - it now lives in the bag and used only when charge is needed away from my desk.

After being close to buying a macbook for about 3 years I've finally done it . 14 pro in base spec - mostly going to be used for sofa development/youtube/browsing etc. Spotted what I think is a good deal on Very: £1725 with black friday discount + 20% off by opening their credit account + 2.75% quidco (11% if a new Very customer!) for a total of approx. £1350.

I got a little exciting watching the World Cup and I managed to spill a small amount of beer in my 14”. I cleaned it best as I could but there are some keys that are a little sticky. I have Apple Care + on it. Worth booking an appointment to get it looked at?

Yes, I think it includes accidental damage so it would be silly not to.

I took it to Western Computers (Authorised Reseller) today as I was in Cheltenham anyway and they had a free slot. I usually just go to the Apple Store at Cribbs Causeway as although it's a slightly longer drive, parking is easier plus it's a massive mall so lots of shops and places to eat... and the mrs loves it. I had my reservations about Western Computers due to what I’d heard from friends locally, plus online reviews etc.

The guy that dealt with me was excellent, he explained they only had one technician working at the moment and he was snowed under so unlikely to get to it today, and he was then off for a few days - end result that they'd probably need it for at least a week. I don't really have any time to get to Bristol any time soon so I thought I'd just leave it with them and paid the £229 (?) excess fee. I've got my 16" work MBP anyway which I can use.

I knew beer had got past the keys as it was sticky, and whilst the excess fee is high compared to screen damage (£79) he did explain they'd do a full inspection of it and replace what is necessary. I've had some minor Bluetooth issues also and he said that would be checked too. I also know the damage that any sugary drink can do to the internals! Two hours after leaving I got an email to say that they've now ordered parts from Apple so I think they've inspected it and decided it might need a new logic board or something. Will have to wait and see I guess.

No. If ever I’m out and about with my MBA, I just use the phone hotspot.
Am lazy & impatient and can’t be bother to enable/disable the hotspot on my mobile phone all the time :o
Plus the hassle I get trying to connect them

I like the simple life where I can just turn something on and it works ;)

You don’t need to. If they’re on the same iCloud account, it enables and disabled as the laptop calls for it. It’s utterly seamless.

When I want to use it, I just click on the Wifi icon in the menu bar, my iPhone is listed. Click to connect and then when done, click to disconnect.

My mobile phone is still an old Samsung ;)
