I’m really unsure now about the Magic Keyboard. I had it delivered, but it’s still in the cellophane, unopened and unused. I’ve been using the cheap-o stand with the tablet in portrait mode, paired with the keyboard and trackpad that came with my iMac, and honestly, I can’t see the Magic Keyboard being any better.
This is certainly more comfortable as the keyboard and pad can be put where I want them, and more importantly so can the iPad.
Hmmm… think I may be returning it.
Two accidents per year, and apple care plus lasts 2 years.

If you don't need the flexibility that the Magic Keyboard provides, then it's probably not for you. For example, are you likely to take your stand/keyboard/mouse to a coffee shop or office? If you only ever use your iPad at home at the desk then Magic Keyboard doesn't make sense. Want to work on the sofa in the living room or in the garden on the lounger, the Magic Keyboard is ideal.
I’m not sure I understand this comment. Perhaps he’s RDp’ing to a computer at work with a work account which does have O365 but he personally doesn’t? Literally 100s of reasons why you’d want to RDP to a Windows machine to do work.Surely if you’re using O365 you don’t need Remote Desktop

Ended up doing a total u-turn and going for the JL offer for the Magic Keyboard - have to say I’m really impressed with it! Does pretty much turn it into a laptop and the viewing angles weren’t as restrictive as I thought they would be. Typing with the keyboard is a joy (aside from the @ symbol being in completely the wrong place… ) and it does feel really well built. Still stupidly expensive for what it is at £250 but seems like the best one to go for. Thanks! The thing that puts me off those is the lack of flexibility around the hinge (specifically for when in zoom calls)
This looks decent but never heard much about them https://www.brydge.co.uk/products/brydge-12-9-max-plus

Really? I mean no disrespect but out of interest have you owned or used a MacBook for any period of time? It’s a better laptop experience than any laptop I’ve ever had.
One issue I don't have with my M1 Air. If I need to do laptop stuff (ie terminal, lots of apps open, switching between them etc) there's no way I'd be using an iPad over my M1 Air.Also, laptops always get hot on your lap and the fans start going crazy, even getting too hot to be comfortable. No problem with that here

I can see where you’re coming from. I’ve gone through plenty of Windows laptops in my time and honestly when I eventually switched to my MacBook the only regret I had was not doing it sooner. Compared to Windows laptops I too would prefer to use my iPad for sure. No, that's fair! Yes, I do mean it. I've had a 2006 15" MBP which I used for a long long time before switching to a Dell XPS 15. There's then also been a general carousel of cheaper laptops - Dell's, HP's, I think a Lenovo at one point. But the MBP and the XPS15 have always been my proper ones.
The reason I found this better is because of the weight distribution, based on the keyboard being very short and the screen extending over it. I always find that, when the screens are open on a laptop, it kinda wants to fall away from you when on your lap. Like they're weighted backwards. With the magic keyboard, it was weighted very centrally. And with the smaller keyboard footprint, it fit on my lap better.
That might be fixed with a modern Air or something, bit I haven't tried them.
