Is the ATV not set up the same as the App Store on the phone/iPad in that if I google HBO I can get the USA app but if I open it up in the app store it says my account isn’t registered there.

So I take it you have to have different apple accounts set as the US in order to download the apps specific to the US? Then set up the smartDNS in order to watch the content?
That’s correct, I have all my subs setup with an Apple ID I created for the US.

Once you log into SmartDNS, you can choose from a list of options of where you’d like to alter your DNS settings.

Choose Windows if you’re running an Ethernet switch to various sources around your home or choose the option to alter your router settings, then change the settings in your Apple TV settings menu in order for it to work.

If you’d like to setup an Apple ID for the US, follow this link.

Another way you can do it is to download a free VPN and sign up to HBO, then use SmartDNS to trick your Apple TV into thinking you’re in the US so you can sign in. Don’t necessarily need to setup an Apple ID for that method.

Anyone use a NAS with their Apple TV for Infuse (or Plex)?

Looking for any recommendations for a simple plug and play solution that I can plug into my BT Superhub 2.

I have a QNAP NAS running Plex Media Server, then have the Plex client on my ATV.

That's all connected via ethernet through a Plusnet bog-standard router.

Everything works great. My only complaint is the Plex interface — when you start it up, it defaults to Plex streaming content rather than the stuff in my library.

That's how you've got it set. When I open Plex on the ATV, it goes straight to my 'home' with the local stuff on show.

Hmmm, how have you done that?

When I Googled it (when I first set it up) all I could find were people complaining about it and everyone saying there wasn't a fix.

That would be perfect. I’d happily move to Plex if I could get this set up. Do you have a link to the one that you use if you don’t mind me asking.

Do you use a Mac to see the drive on your network?

It’s a QNAP TS-435B Mini, but it’s a few years old now.

And yes, accessed via a Mac as a Network Drive. :)

@BMox81 I do similar, I have Plex running on my Synology DS1019+ NAS and it's a model that can do all the hardware transcoding if needed as well without skipping a beat. I map the network drives from the NAS onto my Macs so I can just dump media straight into the library and Plex picks it up.

Do you have it pointing to Infuse or just use Plex itself?

Thanks for this info people-I’ve been using Google Drive with Infuse for the convenience but I know going the NAS route will be more cost effective.

Are the WD My Cloud NAS drives decent or is QNAP/Synology the way to go?

It’s all Plex, baby. No Infuse at all. I did try that as a client to watch Plex content on the ATV but I thought the Infuse interface was horrible compared to Plex. Infuse doesn’t support picking users on the Plex account which also made it a pain. I subbed to Infuse for a year then never renewed it.
