Strongly considering the new fire cub, lack of updates on certain apps is frustrating...even on little things like profiles. Not sure I can give up the convenience of my airpods with atv though

Took the plunge today and ordered the 128Gb version (for the Ethernet), to replace my aging Fire TV box.

Got some John Lewis for Christmas so it worked out half price.

I had a couple of the early ATVs so looking forward to going back to Apple.

Will report back on how I’m finding it in a few days.

So we've been living with the ATV for a few weeks and it's been remarkable in its unremarkableness — everything works as it should, my wife has no trouble using it, and it's nice to have a working remote again (which was one of the issues with our old Fire TV).

It's great, it's fast, it's easy to use and we love that we've now got our iPhoto library on the TV without having to transfer photos to Amazon.

It has been so seamless it's almost underwhelming, but I don't know what it could do to be more "wow" if that makes sense?

This is why it's so difficult to sell it to people. They ask what's so special about it and there really isn't anything, other than the old "it just works" thing.

I've had every version of the AppleTV since the second gen and it's been the same all the way through. They've always done exactly what I wanted to do with no real issues, apart from when I was trying to stream very high bitrate h265 media to the version that just couldn't quite handle it.

I’ve got a mate who just got some gen 2 AirPods Pro and was asking me about him connecting to his TV via Bluetooth and that it was being a bit flakey. I jokingly said that he should get an Apple TV and sent him a pic of the pop in asking me to connect.

Apple unfortunately haven’t done a very good job of advertising what the ATV actually is/does because he thought it was solely to watch ATV+ on and when I said all the other apps were on there as well he just said “But those apps are already on the TV so why would I get that..?”

I didn't know it was in UHD on the ATV, I just used the TV app which worked perfectly. Fitness is pretty good, the way it integrates with your watch (if you have one) is neat.

I'm thinking of getting this next as part of my Apple mega-shop-spree, mainly for Apple Fitness+ however it's a bit offputting if BBC iPlayer is still crap. I did come across this tweet which suggests it's been updated now... Did anyone watch the World Cup in UHD on Apple TV?

No it wasn’t available in UHD on the iPlayer app on the Apple TV.
