Yeah the best method I’ve found so far is also to remove the iPad, fold the case closed and rest the iPad against it. It’s a bit counter intuitive but the iPad is so easy to remove it really isn’t any more effort than a fully articulating case.

It's just that if it's still on it, it offers some protection that's all. Plus it's £100 less which can go towards the Apple Pencil, so its like a free pencil!

Yeah very true. I did consider the Smart Keyboard at first but honestly it was the trackpad that sold me on the MK.
Good point about the pencil. I already had one but if it was a toss up between SK+pencil or MK on its own I would probably choose the former as well.

Recently got and iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard. The 180 fold back being the main draw to it whilst its attached and being used.

I do get though the draw of the MK with its trackpad. The iPads are so good now that you think of them like laptops a lot of the time when in the hardware keyboard mode, and I notice that my fingers jump to where the trackpad ought to be looking to scroll pages etc. I’m quickly getting used to just lifting my fingers up the way to scroll though. The SK setup brings the screen very close to the keyboard, so lifting your hand the screen is not much of an issue.

I remember I have a case when i bought my iPad one which I never used, the iPad actually does fit in it too under the holders but the newer thinner bezels means it now blocks the top sensor and a lot of the screen and also can't use touch ID so going to use it as a carrying case instead.

I keep changing my mind which keyboard I want or whether I even want a keyboard for the iPad so in the interim I bought a cheap case which can holds the pencil in so that i don’t lose it. Went for this one, nice fabric texture, good protection, all ports and buttons lines up perfectly. Some reviwers says it's hard to get the pencil out but i think they are blind because there is clearly a hole right behind it for your finger to push it up from the back. Works perfectly.

Nice case @Raymond Lin
Something like that for my wife's 11" pro would be good because she often drops the pencil from hers. She's stopped taking the pencil to work because she's worried she'll lose it.

I also like how it keeps the pencil on the left side because the right side is for charging, i don't want it constantly charging all the time and it gets in the way too if i hold it on my right hand as well. Makes sense to have it on the left. It basically acts just like the Apple case for £15. Even does the lid opening thing too. Originally I was going to get an magnetic one from a 3rd party but that would still mean the pencil is just dangling on the side of the iPad all the time, not to mention this offers better protection in corners too. Sure it's not as sleek looking since i can't see the metal edges but rubber is also easier to grip in the hand.

Paired my Keychron keyboard with the iPad, works flawlessly and it’s strange to see the predicted text box still pops up at the bottom of the screen for me to press should I choose to. This is cool and I can see why how this can go from a consuming device to being a productivity device with something like this.

Typing this post with it now, and the difference compare to the screen keyboard, like a millions times. Not sure why they don’t give you the split keyboard on the air.

I’ve picked up one of these plus a magic keyboard for my mum to replace her seriously ageing iPad Mini and MBA.

One thing I noticed is that the tags in her Files app are shapes as well as colours but on mine it’s just coloured circles. I really like the look but I can’t replace it on my tablet or mac and it’s really starting to bug me!

I was thinking I’d replace my iPad Air 2 with the new air but I see Amazon are currently selling the M1 iPad Pro 128GB for £699… ooh decisions…

I guess it comes down to whether you want the 120hz promotion (great for drawing with the Apple Pencil) and the higher base storage. FaceID is also excellent.

It’s still £200 more than the Air which is £499 for the blue at John Lewis including their 2 year warranty. https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/ipad-air-2022-for-ps499-blue-only-3921891

The main problem for me though is the 64GB base storage. As there’s no 128GB adoption on the air it’s more of a toss up between the 256GB air or the 128GB pro

Yep as soon as you decide the 64GB is no good for you then the price jumps up quite a bit and the pro becomes a viable option. If 128GB works for you then the pro makes sense to me.

If it appeals at all you can always pick up the 2020 Pro refurb direct from Apple for £549 which doesn’t seem like a bad deal.
Personally I don’t think the M1 is worth £150 more (using the Amazon price). Of course that’s comparing brand new to refurbished but we all know (or should know) that Apple refurbished is as good as new - you just don’t get the retail box in case that’s a deal breaker.
