*** The official 2023 and 2024 Mac mini thread (it has the M2 chip, the M4 chip and everything!) ***

Upgrade from my M2 Mac Mini Pro!?!?!?!....I'm thinking about it.

Might be able to get an discount through my friend.

Tempting at 599 now they have upped the RAM. However charging an extra 33% to upgrade to 512gb is scandalous even by apple standards. A bit rubbish to have the smaller design then have to hang an ssd off the back.
I mean the base price here makes things look worse but it's a pretty consistent £200-per-upgrade across the board.

Doesn't excuse that price jump either though :p

The old model would have been £649 + £200 to take it to 16Gb and + £200 to take it to 512 Gb making it £1049.

Now it's £599 + £200 to take it to 512 Gb making it £799 for the two jumps in CPU, 16Gb memory and a 512 Gb SSD. I think that's damn good!

£250 trade in for my 24GB M2 Mini lol. I’ll wait for next years model as by then AI bloat will be more mature. I expect it to be quite rough for some time anyway.

Great stuff with this years MM though! It is everything I wanted regarding ports and connectivity in general.

A mini had never crossed my mind. I watched the release video purely out of interest (much like the iMac video yesterday) but I am seriously tempted to get the 24/512 mini now!
I had been eyeing an upgraded MacBook (from my M1 Pro) either this year or next year. But since I got my ASD my MacBook spends most of its time in clamshell mode. I’m thinking now, rather than shelling out ~£2500 for a new MacBook (while also selling my own) I could buy the mini to get the bump to M4 Pro along with more RAM and just keep the MacBook for sofa surfing.

how much of the unified memory is usually taken up by the GPU etc? imagine AI will take a couple of gig as well meaning the 16 base could easily be 10gb usable

Just put in a pre-order for the top spec CPU, 64gb memory and 2tb HD. Replacing a 3 year old (to the day almost) M1 macbook pro with 32gb memory, 1TB storage.

Its still a great machine but its showing its age a little at times and some of the stuff I am doing at the moment with generating large sets of high resolution images cooks the laptop and would happily eat up a lot more CPU/Memory.

Will clean up the desk a little as well.

Similar thinking to myself. My base 16" M1 Pro is struggling with the files from my recently acquired GFX 100s. I'm fairly confident that the base Pro model should be a sufficient step up.

You guys for real? My M1 MacBook Pro flies.........I mean, I literally do photos and video for a living so use it all day every day & meetings etc

I am using an M1 Max with 64gb Ram, but still, nothing is struggling here.

Or is this the old 'I want to justify my purchase ;)'

Possibly, but you’re sitting with the M1 Max with 64gb whereas I’m on the M1 Pro with 16gb - that’s hardly an apples to apples comparison? (Pun very much intended).
