***The Official 5600X \5800X owners thread***

It's crazy how sensitive the 5800X is in terms of cooling and the impact on performance. I started with the Wraith Stealth cooler, then on to the beefier Wraith Prism cooler, then got the Phanteks glacier 360 AIO, then upgraded to the new Phanteks Enthoo Luxe case with better airflow and each and every time there were significant improvements in both the temperature (5 - 10 degrees) and subsequent performance of the CPU. Even adding an additional exhausting fan at the back a couple of days ago gave me an improvement in temps and cpu benchmark scores.

I've been running the 5800x for a month or so. I just switched on ECO mode to cap the TDP losing at worst 10% multi-core performance in benchmarks. In real-world use performance, temps, and fan speeds have not been an issue. This is an ITX case with NH-C14S.

So as long as you match the cooling and fan curve to your TDP limit the 5800x is easy to live with and pretty efficient despite its rep as being "hot" and now seems to compare well with the 11700K

The only issues I've had are motherboard related - with a Gigabyte B550i those are the BT module, Ethernet chip, and USB, not VRM or stability etc.

A friend of mine picked up a 5800x as it was what was available at the time. He wants to downgrade to 5600x , he offered it to me for my 5600x + €100. Would this be a good deal for me?

All I do is game and the occasional CAD work.

it's better CPU, even when limited to 65W ECO mode (if you run into cooling issues on your current setup) it's still going to be 2 cores more than 5600X, and single core performance is the same

I'm just about to start a hardline build with 480mm XE rad , so need to decide whether to do the swap or not because once its filled with water I'm not draining it to change CPU lol.

I'm gonna
well then it's no brainier, 6 cores may be sweet spot for 2021 but if you plan to keep same CPU next year waiting for DDR5 platforms to become more mature then you want 8 cores :)

Honestly, since I installed the Noctua D15 and reformatted Windows my system is so damn stable and my temps are great. I gamed yesterday for a couple of hours at 4k (rig in sig) and the CPU temp didn't break 78c, the GPU temp didn't exceed 65c and the system temp never got above 47c. I am hardly running an "aggressive" cooling profile, either.

I am considering just keeping the 5800x and cancelling my outstanding 5900x @ MSRP order.

Got another 5800x after sending the first one back for RMA, and now my system is stable. Haven't had any crashes so far (keeping my fingers crossed).
Since the 5800x is a hot boi I also picked up a Kraken x63, but I think I have the issue with the USB headers that I've been reading around, as the NZXT CAM software I'm using to control my fans keeps disconnecting (it wasn't happening with the 3600).
Has anyone here had any similar issues?

Should be a bios coming next month to fix the USB issues, Agesa 1.2.0.2 I think.

Man the current pricing is so frustrating. I understand in the US, stock levels seem to be turning a corner so hope we see that in the UK too. Everywhere with stock seems to be £330, when the RRP is 280.

Realise that's not as big a hike as GPUs, but incredibly frustrating when you're trying to build a rig on a budget.

That is good to know. Will consider them then. Also considering some other options :)
Still prefer a UK retailer incase of any issues though I must admit.

Yeah there is that. All depends what you are willing to do.
I've taken a gamble and went for an open box 5800X for less than the price of a 5600X from Overclockers.

Good price.

I actually ended up buying a bundle elsewhere.
Basically got me the CPU (5600x), an MSI B550 Tomahawk, 16GB of 3200MHz RAM and a BeQuiet Pure Slim cooler for the equivalent of getting the CPU and RAM at RRP, a little bit off the mobo and the cooler thrown in for free.
Given how much most places are charging for the 5600X right now...couldn't say no, or the father in law might have been waiting some time.

Going to ring them tomorrow and see if they'll upgrade the RAM to 3600 for a little extra :)

Father in law should be very happy, he's coming from my old 2700K (albeit at 4.8GHz!) and a basic SATA SSD to a high performance CPU, modern DDR4, and modern NVME drive. Should feel very fast.

Perfect!!
That will certainly please him.
Glad you managed to get it all for the right prices too!
