The Official 5830 Thread!

Ahh right, that was before my time really then! I bought the 6200A AGP card in 2008 for £25, just because I wanted something that would play San Andreas a bit better.

Muel, have you ran memtest86+ and also prime95 on your PC? Just to test stability. I'd start looking at reasons for BSOD other than software and drivers.

Updating the bios is easy - best done from DOS and it can solve many niggling issues. Windows flashing always scares me, but hey a replacement motherboard isn't that expensive (and it's very unlikely anything bad will happen). Perhaps not good idea flashing in an environment where you are getting BSOD and freezes. DOS is always the best flash OS.

I did run memtest a month ago and got 0 errors, not run Prime for a while though.

It's been fine since I installed the motherboard drivers... (Touch wood).

ya whats the score my cars not arrived yet i am weighing up rejecting delivery and sending it back and getting a 5850 instead:/

what 3dmark06 are you guys seeing?

and what performance in dx10+ games any major stutters or frame dipping?

17k ish, and all but the heaviest games are on full settings.

Crysis is full res, medium settings, no AA, VSync turned on.

The 10.2 drivers seem to work fine for me, only tried with a few games though. 10.4a should support the 5830 when it comes out in the full form though, and most people have found 10.3 works with it.

Anyone tried the new 10.5 drivers out yet? Any comments?

It looks like there are no longer 5830 specific drivers available, so maybe we get to have big boys drivers now. :P

Linky.

Well I upgraded to the 10.5 drivers, seems good so far. I've no idea about any performance increase in terms of numbers, but I feel an increase.

I'm really interested in some more people clocking their 5830's! Meaker has, so have I, but I need more data!

I have a feeling my PSU is holding me back, but more evidence is suggesting that the Sapphire and other models seem to have a higher voltage on the core than the Powercolor model, therefore clock much higher. It's kind of annoying that Powercolor put one of the best coolers on their cards, but overclock the worst as they must have the lowest voltages, which is probably why they run pretty cool. What's the point of that?

Anyway, Overclockers are doing a great deal on the Sapphire cards at the moment:

That is looking like a good deal and about where this card should lie in the price/performance ratio. :)

It's a shame the Powercolor's don't clock further, but they run insanely cool and come with a mild overclock anyway, so would be the best choice if you don't overclock IMO, especially if you want to Crossfire them.

For the overclockers I'd go with Sapphire.

Quoted for truth! :)
