***The Official 5900X \5950X owners thread***

Good points made. Im thinking of getting the 5950x as its the last am4, and i have been excited about getting a ryzen cpu since first announcement. I know its silly money for a cpu to game on but its my main hobby and the idea of having a top cpu in my system will make me feel better that i wont have to worry about changing it for a while.

Sounds good to me mate. And buying the 5950x means you'll never be wondering what if :)

Noticed a strange one today, browsing the web using chrome & CPU temps jumped to 60c from 35-40c idle.
Didn't drop until I closed the browser.

Opened Edge & temps didn't alter from idle, tried this several times with the same result.

Wondering what chrome is running in the background to require so much CPU resources?

Is there not a refresh to come for the 5xxx like an Xt ?

Is that legacy Edge or chromium Edge? Additional extensions in Chrome?

I think I’d be fine for 32gb 3600 but ideally want 128gb down the line....so I think I’ll stick with 3200mhz for now. Cheers mate
Hey, don't know if you're still interested on the RAM front. I have 2 x 64GB dual channel Corsair RGB pro black at 3600Mhz kits working fine on straight xmp settings. Pretty weak timings at 18,22,22,44 at 1.35v but haven't even attempted to tighten. I think you have to accept looser timings for 4 x 32Gb dimms...

Evening all.

I've just finished rebuilding my computer after switching from a 9700k to a 5900x. How does this sound with regards to benchmark scores and temps;

Idle: 40c
Max during bench: 60c
Cooler: Corsair H150i Pro

Port Royal RT score: 11049

Thanks in advance.

Been struggling with 5900X and MSI MEG ACE X570, was getting constant BSOD while idling or lightly threaded loads yet stress testing and benchmarks would run fine no issues with performance inline with reviews and decent temps with D15 (Idle = 28-32°, R20 = 60-65°). Spent ages flashing different bios, swapping out RAM, changing voltages but nothing made any difference until I disabled c-state in BIOS. With c-state on 'auto' or 'enabled' my voltages would drop to as low as 0.2v at idle, with c-state 'disabled' I'm now getting 0.9-1.0v at idle and zero BSOD now. Anyone else have this issue or notice this behavior on MSI boards? Is 0.2v normal and should my 5900X be able to idle at this voltage?

Yesterday I noticed MSI issued new 'D5' BIOS for the MEG ACE which I proceeded to flash, now I don't know if directly related but my RAM is now throwing up errors nearly instantly when using RAM TEST where as before was error free at both XMP and tuned tight timings. I'm using 2x16GB 3600C16 8-Pack and even if I clear CMOS, drop down to 3200Mhz (at 1.4v, soc 1.1v) I will get errors within 50% of test, even at 2400Mhz I will get errors. I tried flashing back to previous BIOS, clearing CMOS, retrain RAm etc and I'm still get same errors. Tried various other RAM testing apps such as MEMTEST64 and DRAM Calc but get same errors!? No idea what's happening and I doubt it's RAM issue, is my 5900X on the fritz? I can try a different RAM kit later today but like I say I doubt it's the RAM as it was rock solid stable to 5000% the other day at both XMP and tuned.

Anyone else getting a little deflated over the 5950x high temps. I have it under a custom loop but it can still spike to 80c over extended gaming sessions. Its getting to the point now where i plan to flush my system and resit the cpu block just to see if i currently have a bad thermal paste application.

I know its only spiking to 80c and will average in the high 60s, but when we gets to summer time i have a feeling its going to be only playable at night with side panels off and a fan blowing on it.

I'm running the CPU-Z stress test on mine right now and it's sitting at a pretty stable 72C, looks like it spiked up to 79 briefly. It's got a dense die so occasional spikes are to be expected I think. So long as it's not sitting up there all the time.
I would recommend making sure your radiator is clean by blasting some canned air through the system. That knocked about 10C off the tempsfor me!

Yeah i'll give it a blow threw. Its more like i said when its gets summer time its going to get interesting. Really hope they release a cryo cooler thing for amd like the new intel one's

What game? COD/Overwatch/Battlefield I'm around 55C with a D15. Would look at your paste/mount for sure.

Been running mine with a 0.0825 undervolt since day one and that really helped with the temps. With PBO on it idles around 25-30 and when gaming/stress testing, boosts to 5.05GHz and will sit there comfortably, and temps for prolonged sessions reach about 70-72 under an X62 AIO. At stock settings, it would peak at around 78-80. This is with fans and pump as slow as they go

Looking around, hitting mid-70's and as high as 80 is pretty standard for this CPU even under water so I wouldn't worry about it.

It also depends on the game you play. For example, Cyberpunk would give me the highest temps, but playing COD:Zombies or Warzone and it will barely get over 60.

How are you guys applying the undervolt and enabling PBO?

Is this done via the BIOS or Ryzen Master software?

Tested mine again last night at stock and am getting around 35 idle and max 60 whilst running Cinebench R20.

Aye in the BIOS, for me anyway. ASUS have an offset option for the CPU voltage, which you set to negative and whatever value you want to apply. PBO was on by default in the BIOS (Asus Crosshair VIII Hero)

Careful with undervolts. It does reduce temps, but also may silently reduce performance because of clock stretching mechanism. Verify by running benchmarks before and after.
I think more reliable way to reduce temperatures is lowering PPT and EDC limits in PBO

Indeed, as soon as I touch anything voltage related, it locks my CPU to 3.4GHZ. This is on an MSI X570 Tomahawk MB

In terms of temps, I tend to idle around 35-40c & gaming is around 60c
If I enable PBO & use my own voltages rather than motherboard limits, Cinebench loads it up to around 70c, using motherboard limits it hits 75c with no increase in performance.

This is on a custom loop with 2x 420mm radiators.
CPU block has been reseated a dozen times since I've owned it so I'm pretty sure this is just how it runs.

Hoping when the newer bios's arrive it will sort out some of the niggles I have with this board. Seems quite temperamental ATM
