****The Official 5G Home Broadband Thread**** (Three/EE/Vodafone/etc)

I'm getting 1472 on 3internet, so 1472 + 28 = 1500, is it always the case it's low or just certain areas?

I'll need to download that, looks really good actually, the website version seems decent too. The weather was the same all day I think, or at least it'd have just been a minor change if anything was different.

Maybe certain areas, or routers. On 3internet mine will drop to 1360 which is below minimum for some games, but then spike up once a connection is opened, then drop again when idle. But a lot of apps don't like that.

On the other APN I get 1500 all the time.

Other than that, it's a bargain. £20 (21 now :( ) for over 800mbit and 60-70 upload compared to the 50/4 I was getting from VM for £25. Pings are also lower than they were when I first signed up. Usually under 20. I like how it's portable too, you can even power the router from USB in the car.

Can you help me here. I've put a zyxel NR5103v2 3 floors up in a loft (flats) with a Three sim on an unlim 5g tarrif. It connects at 4g and gives me around 70/4 - much better than my VDSL of 22/3. I'm quite happy with that. They also gave me a Three voice sim with 3.5Gb of monthly data as part of the business broadband deal.

I was thinking today that I wouls try 5g performance on my phone with the above mentioned "bonus sim", mostly to check if the router was defaulting to 4G for a reason, or not. My phone (inside the building) gave me a pathetic 2Mb d/l on 5g, 1 bar of signal on my phone. Ahh well , case closed.

Wandered back down to ground level, car park, ran another speed test, still 1 bar. .... 500Mb!!!! It ate my 3.5Gb data limit within a few speed tests!

WTF? I tried accessing my loft router and forcing band N73 (with B1 and B3) but that just ends up with it using B1&3 at a reduced data rate (12Mb).
Seems it won't connect to 5G in the loft (4 stories up), but will in a completely surrounded (building and trees) car park just below.

Is 5G THAT sensitive to being indoors? Do I need ot get external Zagi antennas?

I have the Zyxel NR5103v2 and you can get a much stronger signal by rotating it a few degrees in the same spot!

I tried putting the router in my loft but found it received a poor signal. I found placing it on the window sill gave the best results.

Cheers - I did find that (the minor rotations) - spoke to a mate in telecoms last night and he asked me if the roof is tiled (it is) - didn't think about it - but tiles are very dense and a nightmare for high freq radio signals he tells me. I've got a pair of Yagi external antennas coming today - will pop them up and see how it goes. Rather excited about the prospect of 570Mb!! I was chuffed enough to go from VDSL 22/3 to my current 4G 70/4 .....

Had an interesting issue over the last few days, wondering if anyone else has encountered anything like this before?

Street Fighter 6 has an in game patch system (so steam will patch the game but once you launch the game then it downloads another client patch).

For some reason the download of the in game patch was getting to between 97% and 99% but never able to complete (it would just stop with no network activity in task manager). I eventually enabled a mobile hotspot on my phone (EE instead of my 3 5G) and connected to that over wifi and downloaded the patch first time on my PC.

Anyone got any clues why this would happen? I think next time I might try the other APN to see if that helps.

Can somebody advise me please?

My daughter has moved into a flat and my Bro in Law has a Three 5G Router spare now he has 1gb fibre.
I tried his 5G router in my house (he still has 2 months on it) and I got 250mbps download, I took it to my daughters and she got 250mbps download.
He said she can have it but we're also not sure if Three will ask for it back.

Today I rang Three because their site says my daughters flat doesn't get 5G Home Broadband but she gets 250mbps.
The woman confirmed that she hasn't got Three 5G at her flat so wouldn't be able to sell her the package but I confirmed that she is using one, it works great so just sell us her please.
She said because the postcode isn't on the 'working' list the order won't go through.
I said put it on mine then because it works at my property, again my postcode is not on the 'working' list.

So to summarise Three won't sell us a 5G Router because according to their data it won't work at our properties even though we both get 250 mbps.

So what are her options, if Three don't ask for the router back I still can't seem to be able to buy a Three data only unlimited sim or I can't Google?
She doesn't need any cable connections so is there a good Hotspot type 5G device where I could buy an unlimited Smarty data Sim?

Any advice appreciated.

I think if you go into a Three shop they will sell you the service regardless of what the website says. I mean after all you could just want the 5G hub to go camping in your caravan with it, etc.

It might be cheaper for you to go to the "popular high street second hand shop" website and just buy a three 5G router from there (they go for around £120), and then yes you can put an unlimited data sim into it.

As others in this thread will tell you the best deal for that is usually the three unlimited business SIM which you can basically just sign up as a sole trader without any kind of checks. It's currently £7.50 + vat for 24 months.

As far as I'm aware (in my contract with Three anyway), the router is their property and I assume they'll want it back at the end, but I'm not entirely clear how so many end up on auction or that high street second hand shop I mentioned.

You can use a smarty sim. You'll only get access to an APN which does CGNAT though, but if your daughter isn't hosting any services that shouldn't be much of an issue I don't reckon?

EDIT: The 5G router three are supplying at the moment is an NR5103EV2, you can search that and buy a second hand one - that would be your "hotspot type 5G device".

Funny thing is the Three staff member did say you may have more luck going into a Three shop.

Do you mean CEX or maybe Cash Converters? Didn't know they sold them.
You can say their names because OCUK don't sell 5G Routers.

Thanks for the Three unlimited business SIM advice.

Yes, it's CEX, I assumed I couldn't say the name because that shop also sells various other electronics products... but since you've mentioned them what's the harm? ;)

Oh I should also add - my address didn't have 5G broadband available on the website but you could clearly see it was covered on the coverage checker - couple months later the website would let me order it, so perhaps that will happen for you, but honestly you're likely best just to own your own equipment and you'll get a warranty period equal to your sim only contract so it's a pretty good option as far as just taking out a 5G home broadband contract with three.

Another question which may be an easier solution for my daughter since she has unlimited data on her iPhone.

We bought her a TV for her new flat and this is the only thing she will be using for Internet plus maybe a Firestick.
Before I got my hands on my Brothers Three 5G Router I tried her iPhone as a Hotspot, the TV recognised it but but wouldn't connect to it.
She had got her iPhone Hotspot ticked but is there anything else she should do on her iPhone so it would be capable of being used as a Hotspot?

I also tried my S23U as a Hotspot and put it on Tethering but the TV didn't see it.

Three unlimited business SIM advice appreciated please.

I presume this is the page to buy the Sim?

Since this is for my daughter what's some of the best things to enter?
Sole Trader?
Company Name? Something like Nic's Vinted Sales :)

I'd personally message them on chat and ask what their current best deal is, that is how I still have my £2.50 + VAT ones. They were not advertised on the website and the only way to get them was call or do it via chat.

Also just put sole trader, and the person who name it is, e.g. Jane Smith trading as Jane Smith.
