****The Official 7900 overclocking thread****

Can't wait to get home now. First things first, remove my 7800gt and put this 7900gt in its place. Then test it at stock settings. Then overclock with stock cooler and stock voltage and bench. Then put vf900 on, test overclocking limit and bench again.

And if i am still not pleased with oblivion.....then comes the volt modding.

well i had to underclock my core to 640 (on 1.4v), so at 640/2000 i got 10,815 on 3dmark05.

If i get my 1.5v mod to work, im sure i'll break 11,000!

With the memory clocked so high, an increase doesnt make so much difference, if u kno what i mean.

wow matey thats awsome my friend!

Hugely impressed! :)

I can get 630 on the 1.4 mod and 1800 on memory, after which i lost interest and sat down for a ciggy and some beer. No doubt it can be pushed further but i`ll wait and see what this chap does first aye ;)

Forgot to mention my GTX clocks

690/1780 this is fine with no artifacts of any kind.
This was auto detected in coolbits so there is more there to be had.

Not as much headroom as the GT relatively speaking but still more to go.

Easilly, that memory at 2000 is wasted bandwidth with the core so low. Similar case with me, core at 700 but memory only at 1650.

Well it sounds awesome, but i keep getting problems in Oblivion with my memory clocked so high :( i get a black screen problem (well i can still see the HUD and i can still hear everything, its as if my character has gone blind!). I might bring that up in the Oblivion thread.

Im hoping its nothing to do with my graphics card, not narrowed it down to that quite yet. Everything else is fine, just oblivion giving me problems. But everything else is running fine!

BTW thats 2ghz on air! beat that Tim lol

What driver version?

Well I got my 7900gt home last night and before I even tested it with the stock cooler I thought, ‘Hey, why am I bothering with the stock cooler, might as well get that Zalman on straight away. Save me installing the thing twice!’. As soon as I removed it two of the springs and screws fell from the table and the old thermal paste got smeared all over the anti-static cloth and I realised….’god this is more tricky than I thought…..and now I’ve removed the heatsink it’s not going back!’ Then I noticed that part of the graphics core had a greenish fracture imbedded under the surface and now the true horror that it might not even have worked to start with sank in. Luckily, other than the fact that one of the rubber washers was missing from the kit, the installation went, more or less, without a hitch and it turns out the core was fine.

It’s the OcUk own brand (in the case Galaxy) and here are the results in 3dmark05 with 2.7ghz on the opteron:

450/1320 = 8097
530/1440 = 9028
575/1550 = 9828
573/1600 = 9878

Idle temps 32-33
Under load 38-39 (With fan on max) 41-44 (with fan on min)

(I used an X3:Reunion benchmark in a large window to measure temps under load. Don’t know how accurate that it compared to playing it full screen)

I got 3900 or so in 3dmark06 at stock and haven’t rerun it with any overclocks yet. More experimenting tonight. I am using the 84.25v2 drivers from Tweaks.

I have two OCUK 7900GTs in SLI and one of mine had some green stuff on the GPU as well, was the same colour as the PCB so not sure what had happened. Still overclocks to 560/1600 with no voltmodding (VF900's fitted) but was a bit of a concern.

Might have a go at the 1.4 mod over the weekend and see how high I can take them.
