** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Well if you sit with your ear next to the GT,s fan like Will does i guess it would be loud but IMO its silent even at 50%, my case fans make way more noise. Its a breath of fresh compared to the 2900xt's fan.

they are going for that amount.
Geezer, obviously it's against forum rules to speak about that stuff but the prices are pretty much fixed now. There was a windows of about 15 minutes where a few people managed to pick up some of these cards for a good price but my friend you have well and truely missed the boat on that one! :D

I think for the moment its probably best if the people who managed to get a better deal just keep their mouths closed and stop gobbing off "OMG I bought this card for [less than you] and I'm so happy!!!" etc etc, it kinda just rubs Joe-Overclocker the wrong way :o

Well at 50% you can hear it, yours case fans must be loud, but no point arguing over it since its never at 50% anyway. its always at 29% which is silent.

At 70% the 8800GT fan is at 3000rpm and I can barely hear it, above this it sounds like a mini hair dryer but not really loud to be honest. It's okay, the card doesn't get hotter than 70C to warrant a 100% fan speed to be honest.

So all the bs that's been floating on the internet about the fan being loud and the card being a furnace is simply called "speculating over thin air".

The fan is massivly loud, like louder at 29% than the 2900XT at 29%.

stuff that then. I thought the stock fan on my x1800xt sounded like a high pitch hoover when on high speed. On almost high it was still noisy

I wont bother even looking into prices until around 20th nov. My system is nice and quiet at the moment and i want it to stay that way

I can start to hear the card anything over 40%.
My rigs pretty quiet with 2x 120mm Askasa's on a fan controller @ low. (~1200rpm)

What would you guys suggest for fan speeds for a overclocked card as I have set up RivaTuner fan control as:
above 65 - fan 100%
above 55 - fan 80%
below 55 - fan 60%

The noise is not an issue as I use closed headphones and because my case is pre the 120 fan revolution I already have 6 high speed fans installed.

My friend just brought one of these and is having no end of problems with driver's. Apparently the .04 driver dont work? give's him around 8fps in Crysis but the drivers that came packaged with the card give him near 20+ . Anyone else having the same problem?, sorry if this has been posted but I dare not look though all the posts at work in fear of getting caught

The .04 driver worked well for me in Crysis but halved my fps in 3Dmark and caused TF:2 to crash on startup. So I switched to the .02 driver and it all works fine, did lose a few fps in Crysis but it fixed my other issues.

Okay mate, fair enough, but anyway, let's get along okay ;)

We still broke the 13k barrier :D

Yea ok, both of us have fiiiiine scores anyway :D

I was joking, its silent all the time, you never hear it at all :P.
