** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Are people who have wacked the clocks up happy with the stock cooler or thinking about upgrading the cooling?

I'm tempted by an S1 already, for £16 :)

I'm happy with my stock cooler. I set the fan at 80% and it's fine with me.

I got my Inno3d 8800GT to these clocks now:

CS:S Video Stress Test, 1680x1050 all maxed 16xQ CSAA
GPU: 700Mhz
Memory: 1050Mhz
Shader: 1800Mhz
Average framerate: 178.79

GPU: 700Mhz
Memory: 1100Mhz
Shader: 1800Mhz
Average framerate: 184.75

I want to go higher but afraid I might fry the card. How do I know when to stop?

Nice clocks smsmasters,

+10fps for 50mhz on the memory :)

The stock cooler is fine on auto which normally sticks around 29%. I've set the fans higher but find 50~60+% quite loud.

I may have a play round with the Riva Tuner settings tonight to override the fan controls.

Atitool freezes when I set these clocks (had to hard reset):

GPU: 725Mhz
Memory: 1100Mhz
Shader: 1800Mhz

but this is okay:

GPU: 700Mhz
Memory: 1100Mhz
Shader: 1800Mhz

It is. Ive got the BFG OC one and its 625/1800 as reported by GPU-Z, also in the subvendor box mine says BFG, yours just says nvidia.

Did yours have a BFG sticker on the heatsink?

EDIT : Heres a pic of the GPU-Z readout on mine :

well that's irritating.
Yeah, had the BFG heatsink on there, I notice my bios is a different version to yours, maybe that explains it.
The box definitely states is the OC version, and plainly, it isn't!

Mail to BFG time.
Maybe I can just flash the bios.

V1N.

EDIT: Just took the side off my case, and had another look. Yep, BFG heatsink, and OC on the fan.

EDIT2: @ Meatloaf. Did you install any of the BFG stuff from the CD that came with it, or just install the latest driver direct from NVIDIA? I ask, as I've not put the BFG CD in the drive at all, though I doubt this would have any bearing on my card apparently not being an OC when it should be?

Well this is incredible, Crysis bench on my GTS, 1280x960, shadows medium, post processing medium, everything else high, averaged 35 summit.

GT at my native res of 1280x1024, with everything cranked to high gets, 35 summit as well. :D

This is wierd 720 gives me lower fps than at 700?

GPU: 700Mhz
Memory: 1050Mhz
Shader: 1800Mhz
Average framerate: 178.79

GPU: 720Mhz
Memory: 1050Mhz
Shader: 1800Mhz
Average framerate: 177.06

1100Mhz on the memory is unstable, it crashes in 3dmark06, I'll stick with

GPU: 700Mhz
Memory: 1050Mhz
Shader: 1800Mhz

Here's an old time classic bench, FEAR, and if Will's still paranoid about his systems performance, get benching.

2XAA All high except soft shadows, 1680x1050

4XAA

Didnt touch the CD mate, just installed the .04 driver. Mine was from the very first batch that they had in on tuesday morning

Just for the hell of it later on I'm gonna do some benchmarks of CSS/HL2:EP2, TF2, Sega Rally and maybe some more.

You could be stressing it to much.

When I try 1100 in 3DMark06 all appears to be well the suddenly in the first test all you get is green/red blocks all over.

For me, GPU-Z is showing the bus interface as PCI-E 2.0 x16@x8. Can anyone tell me why it would not not be displaying x16@x16?

Oh my god, just tried Episode 2, 16xQSAA/16xAF with Supersampling, and it was ******* flying!!!! my GTS could only manage 2xAA with Super, anymore and it lagged a bit, what a cracker.:cool:
