** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

Crysis Demo @ 1280x1024, 0AA, all settings on high: (results from fraps)

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
33058, 522287, 0,2687, 63.295

Crysis Demo @ 1280x1024, x4AA, all settings on high:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
17966, 325559, 0, 482, 55.185

I now have the SLI indicator enabled and it seems to be using the SLI system. Off to work soon so do some more testing tomorrow, tweak XP to get access to Very High Settings and try x8AA too.

A max fps of 482 in Crysis? I guess thats loading screen aint it?

Hehe, yah ignore the min of 0 and max of 500 odd lol. They only happen for a split second during loading I guess, or perhaps as I'm exiting the game with FRAPS still running.
Seems very playable on all high and x4AA in XP.
I did this the other day in Vista (same hardware setup) and it was unplayable.

Of course it is, if im happy with my current card im not going to play the mindless sheep and follow the herd and sell up for no reason. I won't take as a big financial hit as some because as always Easy you are missing the fact I got my GTX brand new for £250 2 month's ago.

GTS I couldn't give a rat's ass about.

It's all about waiting for Penryn and 9800GTX or whatever it is for me now :)

We'll see when the GTS comes out wether you can resist!:p

Penryn is around 300-500mhz faster than Q6600 clock for clock so its not that amazing TBH.

A 3.6ghz Penryn is like having a 4ghz Q6600

For people like me who have an E6600 the best thing to do though would be to wait and buy a penryn tho surely?

Depends how much they cost.

The G0 Q6600 are pretty amazing if you can pickup a decent one. I am also 100% sure that you will so no difference in games with the penryn over the old G0's, lol if your playing at half decent resolutions, > 1600

I'm running my Q6600 G0 at 3Ghz with 1.1 volts and 3.6 with 1.36 volts. Difference in game between 3 and 3.6 = Zero at 1920x1200.

I would wait for Penryn too Will :). Easy has just stated the benefit of doing so whilst trying to slate it :D. You tell them Easyrider!!!! :p.

Edit: As The Asgard has mentioned. It would be depending on the pricing difference too though.

Hopefully G0's will be lower in price and I might pick one of those up, but might get a Penryn if they are under £200 or round about that price.

Bah, I was hoping to see the OcUK 8800GT 512MB in stock today as I have it on pre-order but now it's 5:30pm with "overdue" and no ETA I suppose I'm stuffed for getting it tomorrow. :(

I'm not blaming OcUK as I have a firm understanding that **** happens and sometimes stock just doesn't come.

I'll probably get in touch with OcUK in the morning and see if they have a new ETA, I'm actually considering changing my order to a different model though. What do you lot think that I should do?

Depends on the price and if you have the cooling in place.

Penryn is a small boost nothing majot and certainly not worth the premium (if there is one) when it hits.

There is a small benefit clock for clock but nothing remotely earth shattering.

Will I notice a diffence having a Q6600 @ 3.8ghz over a 3.4ghz penryn?

Nope:p

Although my addiction will kick in and I'll sell my Q6600 few weeks before Penryn and use my 2140 as a stop gap.

This is all depending on price.

Well if there is a premium I'll get a Q6600 :), I dunno if my OCZ Vindicator will cool it, I'll probs get one of those big coolers like Tom has, whats it called, tuniq tower or something? That should cool it even in my crappy case, just dunno if that cooler will be fine with my mobo.
