*** The Official AirPods {all gens} (and AirPods Pro [and AirPods Pro 2nd generation]) thread ***

You have 14 days any reason return policy, no harm in trying them.

That's what I keep telling myself. I think I'm going to let the inital hype pass and wait for a Flossy Carter review before I decide to plump. He hated the AirPods so I know if he says the sound is rivalling other earphones in the range, I'll go for them just to get the Apple magic back

This track sounds brilliant on them;

Lovely stereo panning etc.

I do have a pair of these badbois.. but not really keen on taking them out of the house :p
/QUOTE]

I have a pair of CIEMs and I'm really tempted to try the APPs - I've waited and waited for high quality wireless in-ears... maybe the time has nearly come!

Assuming you'll be able to get some 3rd party tips soon (comply etc) which might sway me a little further and might wait to see if they come out in any other colours but... tempted.

The Airpod Pros have been delivered to my home address (stuck at work until 4.30) looking forward to trying them out, will post my thoughts later on this evening.

Cheers all

Just watched his review, I’m not sure he’s a lover of AirPods obviously, but I had the Sony XM3s and they Did not fit securely in my ear, tried all tips and variations, plus you can’t use the ANC without a working app which I couldn’t get working on my iPhone XS Max, so I returned them, and went for the Bose QC35 2s which were really good ANC but man did my ears get hot in the office on calls and listening to music, plus I don’t think a suit big over the war headphones as I have a melon head :(

Na he has always hated AirPods. Always has said that they're douchey. It's a shame you couldn't get the app to work it's been pretty solid for me this far just the earbuds don't connect as quickly, which i did expect to be the case anyway

So tried these out during commute yesterday, and in the office.
Observations thus far vs the Sony:-

1. Noise cancelling is far more perceivable, as many have pointed out the ANC on the Sony's verging on passive NC
The apple AirPod Pros do a lot more cancelling of the ambient environment, and there seems to be no discernible impact to sound quality

2. The Sony's seem to be better at stationary ANC in the office for example, where I feel the AirPods feel more claustrophobic initially as it is super silent..
If you aren't listening to classical music this is actually fine, as it feels like you are in a quiet hall before the music kicks off.

3. Connection.. so this is a game changer.. a few times my Sony's would lose connection on one side, or just not connect overall. Then when I re-inserted them in my ear after taking them out I needed to start the app..
All this hassle is gone, though not a huge amount of time was wasted on these tasks, when see holistically the AirPods are better on this front

So after all this I am going to sell the Sony's as these have well and truly replaced them.

The Sony WF-1000XM3? I got a set of those when they’re first came out (mentioned in an earlier post) and they were rubbish IMO they wouldn’t stay in secure one kept falling out, they looked odd poking out of my ears and the Sony connect app was utterly shocking, I never got to hear the full ANC as the app wouldn’t connect to them, no matter what I tried, I had the AirPods gen 1 and loved them, running, in the gym, office calls etc sound wasn’t that strong but the fit for me was perfect, then I get the Gen2s last Sunday :( and now ordered the pros :D damn Apple! I don’t mind as I use them that much

Interesting, the reviews I've seen suggested the WF1000XM3s have the better sound quality and ANC. Perhaps I'm lucky but the standard buds fit my ear just fine. It's the connection that's making me tempted to switch.

Is anyone able to test the ANC whilst on a bike? Hopefully they have a mode for wind noise reduction if so ace, if not they wont be suitable for me

Yes the app is awful, every time I removed my earbuds and forgot to put them into the case, I'd need to put it into the case take them out - open the app and then it would connect. I love how these "just work"

Sound quality is very similar, but 100% not better on the WF1000 M3, I would give the AirPod Pro's the crown based on my musical tastes, which varies from Punk, Metal to Synthwave. Vocals are so much clearer and less recessed. Also for audible the sound is super clean and I don't need to boost the volume to 75% as I had to with the Sony ones. I had a good seal with Sony's but side by side the ANC is just better on the AirPod. I don't ride, but it was windy yesterday evening and when I was walking back I didn't hear anything on the AirPods, but the Sony's usually pick up even the air vent noise on planes :(
However.. there is one bit where the Sony's are better.. when walking on cobbled floors I could hear my bones resonate back into my head.. which was weird. Never had that issue on the Sony ones.

Airpods Pro question: So am I right in thinking you can return these within 14 days if you don't like them? Does this include if you are buying them in an Apple store? (Thinking about popping into town later)
TBF they look absolutely epic and the headphones I have been waiting for <3

That is Apples return policy if you buy them direct. Don’t expect that elsewhere if you have opened them.
Nope I would be buying from the Apple Store of course.... Awesome - sounds like I can test these out in confidence and finally get away from over-ear phones :)

in terms of sound quality and noise cancelling, compared to other £250 headphones the Airpods Pro are hot garbage and one of the worst in class you can get for that sort of price.

What you're paying for is the ease of connectivity and for people who like to show off. Saying that, they are still definitely better value for money than the regular airpods, as at least they provide better audio quality and noise cancelling

Most of the reviews seem to state the opposite and put them on a par with models from Sony, so I'd be interested to hear what you are basing this on.
