I have one, but I have to disagree. The lack of true audio passthrough is a massive issue for some, hence most with high end setups use an Nvidia shield or similar. Also, Prime Video still has sync issues for those who use an AV amp. It's a great box, but it's not king and does have room to improve.

Most people using a Shield are into doing their own rips of movies, hence the need for the Pro to be used as a server for Plex and Kodi. Plus the Shield doesn't have All 4 or Now TV which in todays streaming landscape should be on every streaming device in the UK. But that is a developer/Android issue and not necessarily a Nvidia one.

So while the Shield suits a niche audience, for 4K content, all the UK streaming apps that the majority of people will want to use and now this frame rate issue seemingly rectified, the ATV is top dog.

I'm happy with my Chromecast Ultra which I've owned for years but I will be switching when the new ATV is out. I don't play on Stadia much but I do play a lot of Arcade games so a next gen version with better support for games would go down very well with me.

I get that 100%. I guess you’d get it for a beefed up processor with a potentially larger base storage in the event they go bigger with Apple Arcade.

I'm still using the previous Apple TV 4, no need for a 4K as I'm still rocking a 1080p TV. Still as good as the day it came out of the box.

Well apart from the terrible YouTube app. :D

Yeah when you see every other device rocking the newer version you know there are still issues with Apple and Google. Haha

But hey, the app shows 4K videos now so I can live with it.

Another potential reason to upgrade is if the new ATV supports Spatial Audio. I expect many with the AirPods Max would like that.

I have a TV 4K and tbh I’m not really seeing anything a new one would bring that would benefit me tbh. No interest in games on it so just movies which the current one does perfectly. Will be interesting to see where they go with it though....

I think it would be nice if they could bring some sort of dashboard type app to the Apple TV. Kinda like widgets on your iOS.

it is a bit niche, but given how the ecosystem is moving to having your information at your finger tips, i would use it to put on in the background.

also, it would be great if you could use the ATV to display the other participants on a Zoom/video call, while your iOS device acts as the camera. It’s much nicer to talk to people on a bigger screen.

Anyone buying the new Apple TV ?
Much better remote now, wonder if it will be available to buy seperate for older Apple TV.
Not much of a speed bump it seems but slightly cheaper than before.

Yup, the in built apps on my LG TV in the bedroom are quite slow, so I'll move the existing Apple TV 4K there and have the new one in the living room. I'll also get a new remote if available, I don't like the one I have and I don't actually use it as I have a Harmony remote.

I like the look of the existing remote much better.. This just looks like the 6-7 year old remote for the old Apple TV.

I like the look of the Apple TV but I'm scratching my head trying to work out if I can justify this over my panasonic smart TV and Xbox One.

I'm assuming the Apple TV will be much faster, have more apps etc. Is there any other blindingly obvious advantages? Also I'm trying to work out if I can get standard TV/Freeview HD through it?

Thanks!

One thing that annoyed me with my AppleTV is that the Netflix app always seem pretty far behind in terms of features vs other platforms. My LG C8 has a better version of Netflix and so does my Chromecast Google TV.
