Its the the first apple watch I have had which has had celluar on it,what are people's opinions is it worth the £7 a month to activate it ?
Depends if you think you're going to use it. When I was still very active and was out and about a lot, I had it on mine. I used it once without having my phone with me so I ended up cancelling it.

As is the way when you get a new toy, you got looking for new software.. I would recommend this for the Apple watch, sadly its a subscription but it does have a free trial - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/bevel-longevity-performance/id6456176249
