***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

I'm going to wait a few months too, see what the Dell and MSI versions are like. Plus I'm skint at the moment anyway thanks to buying a Vostro :p

I'm doing the same...the second the specs. of the Dell and MSI are released, THEN i'll consider my options. But the black 900 is certainly my favourite at the moment..very tempted to pre-order.

yeah, i mentioned that yesterday, however you might want to bin the link, TrustedReviews has its own "price comparison" section, which is useful, but fall under the "no competitors" segment of the forum rules.

Good review though.

1.5hr bat life increase.... the 900 is rated at 2.5hrs!

Thats a BIG increase, though prob means no Wifi and low screen brightness

Well worth me waiting for though, dont even have the money ready yet.

On the 701 I get roughly 3 hours with wifi turned on and screen brightness at around 40%. I can't see the 1.5 hours extra battery life of the 900 being true in real life conditions due to the bigger screen. The only thing I can think of is that they're comparing it to the 701 2G Surf, which has a much smaller battery than the rest of the range...

Well Atom definitely uses a lot less power than a Celeron M. I think I read Atom 1.8 GHz uses less than 3W under stress and about 0.2W when idle. Hard to find exact figures on the Celeron M but I believe it's 5-10 times those numbers. If they paired up an Atom with LED backlit screen (or many years in the future an OLED) you could have some seriously long battery life.

I thought the 900 uses the same battery as the 701 4GB?

Since the 900 is just an 701 underneath, apart from the larger screen (more power hungry) how have they managed to increase battery life?

You might want to try it with 512mb before upgrading to see if you can get away with it. I'm running 512mb at the moment without a swap file and it's fine (although I do have to be conscious not to keep too many apps open at the same time).
