***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

I thought the 900 uses the same battery as the 701 4GB?

Since the 900 is just an 701 underneath, apart from the larger screen (more power hungry) how have they managed to increase battery life?
No, the 900 has less battery life (2.5 hrs versus slightly over 3.0 for the 701), the 1.5 hrs extra is what asus think the later atom equipped version of the 900 could bring (taking it up to 4 hrs). They could equally then do (and probably will) a 701 with an atom and battery life would be even longer.

Im tempted by the MiLeap H - 7" tablet :D

/waits impatiently for first Atom UMPCs

ps3ud0

Tell me about it, got my Dell on ebay to be replaced by something a little more portable, even if they are slower.

I have seen the SUSE (1.2ghz, 1gb, 120gb) version of the HP on pre-order for £299 (the RRP I hope?). They have no idea when it will be available though so it's a bit useless.

can anyone give me detailed instructions on how to install xp onto my eeepc (4gb 701)

i have a 4gb sdhc card and portable hdd if they are of any use

Oh happy days....sat here with Dad's Eee, CrossWorks and an Office XP cd copied over to a 1gig SD card trying to get Access 2002 onto the Eee so it can be halfway useful for Dad beyond being an epic little toy. Despite OpenOffice.org Base being wonderful in a lot of respects, it just won't play nicely with any of the existing database files (written in Access '02) we throw at it.

I would just put WinXP on the Eee....but a) I quite like the Linux install it ships with and b) that would be far too easy.

For Nlite'ing XP I would recommend http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=22332 Its as easy as downloading the config file, importing into nlite plus it's better tested than the other guide. Also Slipstream these drivers into the install http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=20774 saves a lot of space and time.

thanks, for the guides. i'll get onto it tomorrow when i get a usb to IDE or usb to sata cable so i can link a DVD drive up.

Got Access '02 installed under CrossWorks pretty painlessly in the end. Not quite 100% stable, but I expected that. Did it using the default CW bottle, so it may pay to go back and re-do it under a WinXP one rather than the standard Win98 bottle.

Have to say - this Eee is a great little machine. The screen size doesn't irritate me half as much as the sheer weight of Dad's old Dell laptop did - I reckon the tiny size is an acceptable trade-off for the lower processing power and HDD capacity. Don't honestly see the point in the 900 - the 700 series appears to do everything you'd need a properly portable machine to do, the screen is perfectly usable, the battery life is fine....

sorry for asking again, but does anyone know the biggest size SD/SDHC card the eee will support, i got a 4GB to work, but im tempted to get a 8GB card but i wont if it wont work as i will have no other use for it.

the 4GB was a wrong purchase form another country:o

Whats the screen like on these for reading from for long periods? Im interested in getting a laptop as cheaply as poss really, which will be used just for the internet and simple office stuff, but also reading a lot of documents. Will it be a pain to read due to the low resolution and lots of scrolling? I'd really like something that has a decent screen. Thanks.
