** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

Just upgraded to 4x1gig sticks, and it would appear I have run into the same problems as others. With my old 2 sticks, I used to run at 803mhz 4-4-4-12 no problems. However, since adding another two my system is totally unstable even at 715 5-5-5-15. Running at stock speed it is fine.

Of course, it could be that my new RAM (Corsair XMS2 PC5400 4-4-4-12, same as before) doesn't like being overclocked, but I'm guessing I've hit the memory hole from 711-838 or whatever it is.

I'm loathe to try the latest BIOS (0703) again because when I tried it before I found that it crippled my CPU overclock compared to 0608.

Mine is totally stable at 711 4-4-4-12 with 4 x 1GB of Geil, sub-timings on auto, 2T
You could try 667, I doubt there is any noticeable difference in speed

^Yep I'm running 667 (stock) atm, and it seems fine.
Just a bit annoying as I've effectively lost around 136mhz memory speed compared to 2 sticks. Haven't given up hope yet though, might try a hefty overclock (840) with relaxed timings totry and beat the hole and see how that goes, although I've got a feeling this memory isn't up to the job from some testing I did in the past.

So its definetly a hole?
Im running 2 sticks at 887mhz atm, wonder what the chances of running 4 sticks at that frequency are.

The hole is roughly 723 - 838. So 887 should be fine. I tried my 4 sticks at 950 with more relaxed timings and it ran fine. But I preferred to run the RAM within spec at it's rated timings - the performance was hardly any different

Ok thanks, presently running my pair of 10th anniversarys with 4-4-3-8 at 887mhz , so I guess I my get a decent clock yet when I add the other pair.

Cheers :)

My P5N-E SLi worked fine with 8800GTX, 8800GTS 320, 8800GTS 640.
It would not post i.e.. no video. with an ASUS 5900, MSI 8400GS and an ASUS 8400GS (all card worked on another pc)
This board is pants. Do you know how I solved the problem in the end, after wading through the 122 pages on the ASUS forum for the P5N-E SLi.

Got myself a Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R.

That was my initial choice, until I realised the P5N-E is the only 775 board to have 2 IDE ports. Why oh why do all the Intel chipsets only have 1???

I'm sure that to run 4 sticks of ram you need the later bios's and non of these will allow a high FSB. i could only get my E6300 stable at 3.0 on the later bios, on 0401 at the mo.

The "holes" related to this board are more of an FSB/ratio issue, not memory. (obviously, some mem speeds won't work if it means the fsb is in the hole).

Hangtimes problem is he's got 667MHz mem, now with twice the capacitance on the signal lines at the memory end, it's no surprise 803MHz doesn't work anymore :-)

I bet 5p Hesky won't be able to run 4 sticks of 667 at 887.

ASUS P5N32-E SLI AiLifestyle Series - motherboard - ATX - nForce 680i SLI

How good is this one compared to the to the ASUS P5N-E SLI: NVIDIA's 650i as its not thnat much more, andf that one is out of stock

It's a steaming pile of expensive poo. It's a shockingly bad motherboard - it genuinely should have been strangled at birth.

Get a Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4. Every possible feature, 6-phase VRM and it supports Penryn CPUs. It's also the best of the 650i boards with a quad CPU. You should be able to pick one up for about £75 with free postage.

what about that one

I have a problem! Wonder if you guys can help! I did a quick search on the thread & couldnt find much! :(

I've got this board, with a Core 2 Duo E6320 & 3GB DDR667 Kingston ValueRAM. I was overclocking the other day, all was good & then suddenly it wouldnt boot. No video, no beeps, nothing. Just fans spin up, lights come on (HDD light stays on for some reason), and thats it!!!
The settings i was using are; 1600mhz FSB, 733mhz DDR, 1.425v Vcore & 2.085v Vdimm.
I've got an Asus Silent Knight CPU cooler, and with other overclock boots (about 2.5ghz) i was getting no more than 45c on load, with about 25-30c on idle.

I have tried the usual restarting the PC to reset the BIOS after overclock crash, also reset the bios using the jumper, taken the battery out for about 7 hours, nothing seems to be working at the moment!

Any ideas?

Leave the RAM at stock until you have found the MOBO and CPU max OC.
I have this mobo and an E6300 and it sits nicely at 3.4 on water so 3gig is easily achievable on decent air. To reach these speeds the NB needs 1.7V and unless your case cooler id very efficiant you will need to actively cool the NB.
The latest Bios isnt any where as near high FSB friendly as the earlier ones, im on the 0401 bios.

^^ what he said plus trying skipping to 1707 QDR/FSB with max volts on the NB

What multipler is that chip, try 6x to start anyway

Does kingston need more volts then the stock bios is giving. Try some cheap ram if you can

Thanks for the replies! My problem is that the PC isnt booting up at all anymore! No video output, no beeps, no BIOS nothing! Just fans/cd/hds spin up and thats it!

I didnt touch the voltage of the NB, i left it on the normal auto setting. Im thinking that the CPU or board is knackered at the moment, im waiting on a friend so we can do some swap tests with his equipment. What would you say? I dont think either should have died, but its looking like one has. I dont think the memory is at fault, as i have 3x 1GB sticks, and i cant see all of them dying at once?

I had this during the early days of experimenting with this MOBO, i unplued the power lead, took out the battery, tried turning the machine on (to drain any life still left in), reset the CMOS with the pins, made a cup of tea, came back, put in battery, connected back to mains, switched on.
It worked.
