** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

Interesting new beta bios.

P5N-E SLI beta BIOS 0801
1. Fix system hangs when using Razer Copperhead USB Mouse.
2. Improve compatibility with Creative X-Fi sound card.

There is issues with X-Fi cards? I never had any problems, or maybe its the 4gb RAM problem.

I have had problems with crackling in games (especially Half Life 2 source engine based games)

Interesting indeed should try that sometime, there is no issue with X-Fi afaik although everytime I boot up into XP the sound is always muted and I had to get into sound control to raise the volume. But I think it's OS related as I don't get it in Vista.

Also I used to get no sound and had to switch profiles a bit to bring the sound back but that was rare and was cured by reinstalling windows.

Thanks for the replies! My problem is that the PC isnt booting up at all anymore! No video output, no beeps, no BIOS nothing! Just fans/cd/hds spin up and thats it! :eek:

I didnt touch the voltage of the NB, i left it on the normal auto setting. Im thinking that the CPU or board is knackered at the moment, im waiting on a friend so we can do some swap tests with his equipment. What would you say? I dont think either should have died, but its looking like one has. I dont think the memory is at fault, as i have 3x 1GB sticks, and i cant see all of them dying at once? :confused:

You should have raised the NB, that could cause the original problem. Try just 1 stick of ram, preferablly you should try some other brand

Just flashed bios after reading here about new beta version, and so far so good, no cold boot issues with razer mouse (like in 0703) and now i can boot with 4x1gb geil ultra at 800 :) had to run ram at 711 or 830 before
havnt overclocked yet so dont now how stable it is clocked, just thought i'd post about new bios

ok just clocked straight to 3.2 (400x8) ram 800 1:1 4-4-4-12 T2 every thing seems fine so far :)

Looks like another shoddy overclocking BIOS from Asus as far as I'm concerned, much like 0703.

With 0608 I run at 3.21ghz, but with 0801 I can't even get into Windows at 3ghz. Bit of a shame really as I wouldn't mind some of the fixes from more modern BIOS' (RAM/X-Fi compatibility), but not at the expense of hundreds and hundreds in clockspeed.

On my other rig I have four sticks of g.skill hz with an e6600 and p5ne-sli mobo but I can't seem to get the ram stable over 667mhz (kinda annoying considering people can get this ram at 1.2ghz :()

I am now on the latest bios but still have the same problem :confused:

Is this board really picky? Any advice to get the ram at higher speeds?

thx :)

I had this during the early days of experimenting with this MOBO, i unplued the power lead, took out the battery, tried turning the machine on (to drain any life still left in), reset the CMOS with the pins, made a cup of tea, came back, put in battery, connected back to mains, switched on.
It worked.

Thanks for the advice, ive already tried that and it didnt work! :(

Ah right ok thanks :) I've tried with 1 stick of RAM at a time and it doesnt boot. I havent tried with any other RAM though as i dont have any other DDR2 available :(

Ok, update on my problem;

Did some swap tests last night, the CPU is fine & the Graphics Card is fine (phew!). Couldnt test the RAM, but i cant see 3 sticks all dying at once. So im assuming its the motherboard.
I read through the BIOS updates last night, and i think update 05** had a repair to the CPR feature, which fixed problems with high overclocking. Im thinking thats probably the problem i've had! I never updated the BIOS on the board, so it was running the original release.
After that i did a few searches about the CrashFree BIOS 2 feature, and found people with the same symptoms as me (HD & Power lights on permanently, no video, no beeps). So i went on to try using it;
Turned the PC on, inserted the CD, the CD spins up, reads, then stops. I still have no Video so i have no idea whats happening on screen! But it does seem like there is life there. Usually it doesnt read or spin up at all...

Ideas? Anyone know how to successfully use the CrashFree BIOS 2 feature?

Check you didn't do what I did, put the clear cmos jumper on the wrong pins.....

was it just a reboot no go or did you change any bios setting and it then stopped? I have found that mine fails to reboot sometimes but simply pressing reset and waiting 10 seconds solves it, may take a few goes but it comes back every time.

Amazing - I have 4 sticks of Geil as well, and currently run at 711 :)
I may wait though until they release it as an official BIOS

Has anyone tried OCing a quad core in this board yet?

I had a quick skim over the thread and didn't see anything... am getting this and q6600 :S
